I think that if Nintendo can bring this commercial over for Kirby, then Capcom really ought to be bringing over the Japanese Rockman commercials, given that even the worst ones are vastly better than any we've gotten over here.

I mention this merely because this proves it CAN be done.

Ah I remember seeing that a while ago. Man I love that commercial. Has Nintendo really brought it over to the west? I wouldn't entirely cut them slack, they wanted to change his color in Kirby's Adventure.

I was going to use this commercial as an example in an editorial on MegaMan commercials that I never wrote.

Oh, by the by. See how this hits you. You know those kick-ass commercials for Rockman EXE (before 4) and Rockman Zero? (Boktai as well) I've been told that the company behind those wanted to make a Rockman EXE OVA, but Capcom turned them down because they were already going ahead with Axess. When you think about it, once Capcom conglomerated EXE with ShoPro and Takara, that's when the crappy EXE game commercials started appearing. Makes you wonder.

Don't remember 4's, but yes. Totally. That's why I posted this. :) Among others. I think that X2, X5, X6, CM, and even the very first Rockman commercial were all better than what we've gotten.

...and it doesn't make me wonder TOO much. That's too bad, really. Let's hope they try for a Rockman Zero or even Rockman X OVA. I'll even take Legends or the original, anything, the work in those commercials is incredible.

Maybe they'll be doing the movie? ;P

Click the red button that says "CM." All five commercials there came out after EXE3 did. The bottom is for Battle Chip GB (Battle Chip Challenge). The middle three are for EXE4 (the one on the top came out a few months later). And the top one is for EXE 4.5. None of them have any cool animation, and three of the five use real people as characters. Apparently this helps make it seem more real and appeal to kids more, since they're trying to sell games, animes and toys at the same time. The two EXE 4 commercials that came out when the game did are especially awful. They try to be strangely artsy, focusing on the choice of using or avoiding darkness. But they're still bizarre, un-Rockmanish, and feature very little of the actual game. Amazing EXE 4 (counting both versions) was able to sell over a million copies.

GP has a neat animation at the end, nothing outstanding. I think the commercial overall sort of conveys the idea of the game opposed to the standard EXE fare, though. Probably do it even better for me in English. :B

As for 4? Guess they know their audience better than Capcom USA does. The first two EXE 4 ones remind me more of American commercials... perhaps that does well over there?

At the same time, if we had the anime commercials here, it'd probably do better here. I think they need to sit down and consider this :B

4.5's is neat, though.

Of course, the lackluster commercials would explain why I don't remember them... I know I've seen them, I'd make it my business to have seen them.

What would the editorial be about? And yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw it in English, I know I never downloaded it until just before I made that post...

And what did you mean about changing his color? I thought maybe just the original GB Kirby's Dreamland box was an error...

The editorial was just going to be about how Capcom doesn't really try to promote Mega Man as anything unique or interesting. Aside from the "'Cause he's blue!" series of commercials, I've only ever seen three other commercials for MM games, and two weren't made by Capcom at all. Rather than contrast the commercials to Japanese Rockman commercials, which are usually awesome but not overly encouraging, I wanted to use the Kirby commercial. It's cute, clever and very original. You can't watch it and not get a good feeling. Then, since this was before BN4 was out, I was going to pitch my idea for a BN4 commercial. Not sure if I ever mentioned this to you or not.

Starts off with some random person. Male or female, kid or adult. It can vary, and should. They're just doing some mundane, everyday activity, like microwaving lunch, or watching TV. Suddenly, some disaster happens with the thing they're doing. Such as, the microwave door flings open and launches food at the person, or something blows up, whatever. It's meant to be humorous and the person is taken by surprise. However, then the person comes to his/her senses, pulls out an Advanced PET, points it at the screen and yells "Transmission!" Then we cut into gameplay footage and the rapid mention of the game features, such as soul unisons, dark powers, whatever. Of course, I did worry slightly that if people were using Advanced PETs in the commercial, it might lead some to think you could actually buy one. But now, you CAN buy one, so it works all the better. Ah well, just my idea.

As for Kirby, I remember reading this article a few years back. You've seen the box art for Kirby's Dreamland, no? And Kirby is white as a ghost. This is because Nintendo of America didn't want him to be pink, because they felt it would be too prissy/dainty and turn away most gamers. Since it was a GB game without color, no one was the wiser. Then Kirby's Adventure, in all its pastel color glory, comes along. Again, NoA really doesn't want Kirby being pink. However, this time they have a meeting with the creator of Kirby (don't remember his name tho). They tried suggesting things like blue or green, but the creator wouldn't agree to anything. He thought those colors would make Kirby look sickly. Finally, after more suggestions/arguing, he just slammed his fist on the table and proclaimed "Kirby is pink!" And that was it.

Neat idea. I like it, a lot.

Prior to the release of the Advanced PET, though, maybe they could've pulled out a blue GBA? :)

And I like this fellow. A lot. :) At least Nintendo's made the most of the pink color. "Pink don't shrink" and all.

I just realized a little irony though, now that this latest game does have a green Kirby and all. In fact, you can pick up the option to recolor Kirby in a variety of different styles. Dunno how much you're into Kirby, and so I hope that isn't a spoiler or anything. ^^;

Ah, and a blue GBA also would work. I'll admit the commercial works better for the older games, but so long as BN games continue to have viruses/Navis causing things to break down, it can always work.

I like Kirby, but I don't get to play the games as much as I'd like, so no biggie.

Saw the commercial today. Granted they had to "cool it up" with the spy music and pointlessly detailed target graphics, but it was still pretty good. A lot better than what I'm sure Capcom will cook up for X8 and BN5 simultaneously.

"BLUE! BLUE! BLUE!"

See, it's stupid stuff like that which will haunt a company for the rest of its days...
