Oct. 26th, 2004 06:18 amI think that if Nintendo can bring this commercial over for Kirby, then Capcom really ought to be bringing over the Japanese Rockman commercials, given that even the worst ones are vastly better than any we've gotten over here.
I mention this merely because this proves it CAN be done.

Date: 2004-10-26 11:20 pm (UTC)...and it doesn't make me wonder TOO much. That's too bad, really. Let's hope they try for a Rockman Zero or even Rockman X OVA. I'll even take Legends or the original, anything, the work in those commercials is incredible.
Maybe they'll be doing the movie? ;P

Click the red button that says "CM." All five commercials there came out after EXE3 did. The bottom is for Battle Chip GB (Battle Chip Challenge). The middle three are for EXE4 (the one on the top came out a few months later). And the top one is for EXE 4.5. None of them have any cool animation, and three of the five use real people as characters. Apparently this helps make it seem more real and appeal to kids more, since they're trying to sell games, animes and toys at the same time. The two EXE 4 commercials that came out when the game did are especially awful. They try to be strangely artsy, focusing on the choice of using or avoiding darkness. But they're still bizarre, un-Rockmanish, and feature very little of the actual game. Amazing EXE 4 (counting both versions) was able to sell over a million copies.

Date: 2004-10-26 11:58 pm (UTC)As for 4? Guess they know their audience better than Capcom USA does. The first two EXE 4 ones remind me more of American commercials... perhaps that does well over there?
At the same time, if we had the anime commercials here, it'd probably do better here. I think they need to sit down and consider this :B
4.5's is neat, though.
Of course, the lackluster commercials would explain why I don't remember them... I know I've seen them, I'd make it my business to have seen them.

Date: 2004-10-26 11:35 pm (UTC)Starts off with some random person. Male or female, kid or adult. It can vary, and should. They're just doing some mundane, everyday activity, like microwaving lunch, or watching TV. Suddenly, some disaster happens with the thing they're doing. Such as, the microwave door flings open and launches food at the person, or something blows up, whatever. It's meant to be humorous and the person is taken by surprise. However, then the person comes to his/her senses, pulls out an Advanced PET, points it at the screen and yells "Transmission!" Then we cut into gameplay footage and the rapid mention of the game features, such as soul unisons, dark powers, whatever. Of course, I did worry slightly that if people were using Advanced PETs in the commercial, it might lead some to think you could actually buy one. But now, you CAN buy one, so it works all the better. Ah well, just my idea.
As for Kirby, I remember reading this article a few years back. You've seen the box art for Kirby's Dreamland, no? And Kirby is white as a ghost. This is because Nintendo of America didn't want him to be pink, because they felt it would be too prissy/dainty and turn away most gamers. Since it was a GB game without color, no one was the wiser. Then Kirby's Adventure, in all its pastel color glory, comes along. Again, NoA really doesn't want Kirby being pink. However, this time they have a meeting with the creator of Kirby (don't remember his name tho). They tried suggesting things like blue or green, but the creator wouldn't agree to anything. He thought those colors would make Kirby look sickly. Finally, after more suggestions/arguing, he just slammed his fist on the table and proclaimed "Kirby is pink!" And that was it.

And I like this fellow. A lot. :) At least Nintendo's made the most of the pink color. "Pink don't shrink" and all.

Date: 2004-10-27 07:43 am (UTC)I just realized a little irony though, now that this latest game does have a green Kirby and all. In fact, you can pick up the option to recolor Kirby in a variety of different styles. Dunno how much you're into Kirby, and so I hope that isn't a spoiler or anything. ^^;
Ah, and a blue GBA also would work. I'll admit the commercial works better for the older games, but so long as BN games continue to have viruses/Navis causing things to break down, it can always work.
