I want a Nintendo DS, and rather badly... don't know why, exactly. Well, I sort of know why. I just didn't think that what's there would entice me to such a degree.

In any case, I'm really wondering if this is a good means to the end or not. Saw the ad in a newsletter of sorts I get about every day, the one which provides me links to stuff such as this and this.

I'm sort of interested in the Discover Card option... chiefly as a way to build my credit rating. I figure after the initial purchase(perhaps get a pizza or something small, or maybe fill my car once) I can destroy the card, pay it back, and everything is good.

Still, I'm uneasy about applying for a credit card online, when it's asking for shit like my Social Security Number and stuff. Probably normal, but I'm paranoid to give out too much info, you know?

So to those who may be better educated than I in manners such as this, does it seem legitimate enough? Or should I just back away and pretend I didn't see it?

I'm a tad hesitant of their legitimacy. I can understand them accepting new members from my college town or the major city close to my house... but from my hometown? I doubt it.

Places online that promise you a free anything online are usually scams, or pyramid schemes that you'll have a hard time benefitting from. Give them your email, and you'll see a noticable increase in the amount of spam you recieve.

As for a credit card, be EXTREMELY careful if you want to apply to one online. If the wrong guy gets his hands on the data you typically have to put on an app, you could have a nice guided tour through the magical world of identity theft, and that's not a place you want to go.

You'd be 1000 times safer just filling out a paper application. It's all too easy to intercept data like that on the internet.

I know I'm a total stranger but...

Having had my actual bank card number stolen, my card duplicated by a con artist and then used in Canada to charge some $900 to my bank account...

I would trust a credit card app about as far as I could throw the con artist who is likely on the other end. NEVER give out your SSN, any credit card or bank information...

I mean Jesus, mine got fscking stolen by a legitimate merchant here in CO who sells legit bank card numbers to scammers.

Please be careful!

BTW...I just noticed it's Discover you're looking at. Be wary of thier interest rates. They have been known to screw people over with fees and such...I've had a Discover card for a long time but a friend got royally jacked by them a few years ago over a disputed charge.

I'd call them and apply that way if you want the card, or get a printed app sent to you. I have a Discover card and recently got a warning from them about people stealing thier numbers, too. :P

Thier number is 1-800-DISCOVER.

Point taken. My chief interest was the DS deal, but I think I'll find other means to acquire one... *grabs a brick*

Thanks :)
