Saw The Dark Knight earlier. Pretty good. Without spoiling anything, I will say it's interesting to note some parallels between this and the 80s Batman movies by Tim Burton. And it's not even obvious/obligatory stuff like "Bruce Wayne is Batman," but much more subtle stuff.

Also ironic, without saying too much, is a bit of talk in the movie about people putting their bets and hopes and such on someone, and IRL, it seems those who made the movie did just that, and it's kind of mucked things up for the future.

Incidently, given the tone of these Batman movies, it's hard to say where they'll go from here... Batman has a pretty good rogues gallery, but many are fantastic in the more literal sense... Penguin seems iffy... Riddler and Catwoman seem like the best bets. Bane's a maybe... I couldn't see Clayface happening. Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy walk that same line as Penguin...

Royal Flush Gang might work. Talia al Ghul would be interesting, considering. Black Mask might work... Deadshot was good, but he was in Gotham Knight. Then there's Killer Croc...

Mad Hatter? Hush? Man-Bat? Hugo Strange maybe... Scarface and the Ventriloquist might be a bit odd.

On another note about another "Man," been playing Mega Man X Collection with Red a bit lately. Damn, that PlayStation 2 controller really starts to bug my right hand after awhile, mainly the index finger down around where it curves down for the R2 shouler button. A little worrisome.

Mega Man X3 is a bigger bitch than I remember. I'm guessing the guys who made this one are the ones who went on to form Inti Creates. That would just figure, given the seeming propensity for high risk, low reward in this one.

Mega Man X4 still plays like a dream, though. Too bad that pretty much everything relating to the story still sucks. X3 and X4... and X5 and X6 and X2, come to think of it... hell, let's say X7 while we're at it, could really have benefit from some MHX rewiring.

I heard that some of the crew members are talking about the Riddler. What's interesting is that Johnny Depp was contacted if he's interested in the role.

Heard someone say something about Depp as Riddler earlier... thought it was just conjecture of who they'd like to see. But I could go for that, assuming he's smart and eccentric, rather than off-his-balls crazy like Carrey's was.

Interestingly, they really didn't give us any sort of clue here as they did in Begins.

I know there was one scene near the end of Dark Knight where I was reminded of Burton's Batman, but it turned out ever-so-slightly different. And are you referring to Ledger's awesome performance as the Joker and how they may have screwed themselves over for future movies?

I liked Dent's line on the darkness before the dawn, and how that seemed to represent this movie...

As for screwing, basically just a matter of who lives and who dies on both sides of the camera.

Penguin would work perfectly, though. He's one of the most mundane people in the crew: mob boss with a bird fixation. Someone picking up the ashes from the Joker's reign and building a sort of "know a guy who knows a guy" empire, covering his tracks all over and keeping a sort of tense-but-needed dark side to Gotham, just in a less blatant manner like the old mob.

Depends how they play Penguin. Would he be like DeVito's, with the flipper hands and freakishness, or just a weirdo in a suit?

Anyway, the trademark factor that would stick out for him is the umbrellas. Otherwise, no serious issues there.

Great, great movie. I think for the next one, Harley and Ivy would be good choices. Ivy's a fan favorite, and the fantastical nature of her powers can be toned down and balanced by the same critical thinking that brought so much power to The Dark Knight. There's a lot to say about the environment lately, and Ivy could fill that role as nicely as she does in the comics.

Harley Quinn brings that element of the Joker back from Dark Knight without actually having to use the Joker, which would make sense I think. Using both girls could open a lot of doors for the flick to explore.

Poison Ivy would be a tricky one, given her "superpowers," or close approximation thereof.

Harley without the Joker seems wrong. Not saying they need to be joined at the hip, but if she came and went and never the twain were to meet, that'd just seem wrong.

She's have to change a bit to fit the franchise, but it's doable. Just take everything in Batman & Robin and throw it away. In the comics she's more than human, but she doesn't have to be for the film. The character is all about two things: environmentalism and seduction. Those can be presented with or without the "human plant" status.

Harley without the Joker seems wrong. Not saying they need to be joined at the hip, but if she came and went and never the twain were to meet, that'd just seem wrong.

Who said they'd never met? The next film is going to have to explain the Joker's absence one way or another, and one way to do that is to explain Harley's background. Psychiatrist falls in love with the Joker, and now he's gone. Where does that put Harley? It's a good start for the next movie.

True enough on Harley, but I just mean a chance to see them interact onscreen.

Mr. Freeze could be done...his story is sufficiently tragic to fit with the Nolan franchise, though his was the only serious story in Batman and Robin (for whatever that's worth...) so I don't know what they'd do differently.

I actually think the Ventrilloquist could be fantastic, along the scary-as-hell lines as Scarecrow was. Trouble is making it sufficiently different from that silly horror flick that came out recently. But even so he'd probably have to be a subsidiary villain.

Riddler would be a lot of fun, especially with Depp. Maybe trying to give order to the Joker's madness? There'd have to be some link after all between a joker and a riddler. He could even be paired somewhat with a mob boss like Penguin.

Then again Catwoman would be nice too, if nothing else to reclaim the brand name from shame.

Oh, no questioning the tragicness... I'm just wondering if his whole thing, having to be kept cold in order to survive, isn't just a little too "out there" for the current franchise.

I've seen a neat idea for a plot with Riddler and Penguin.
