The magic is gone. Preach on, brotha.
There were some simple pleasures in my childhood. The above-mentioned Happy Meal experience, the ads that went with it, flavored cereals with fanciful ads, Saturday morning cartoons, things of that sort... it sort of pisses me off that there are people practically conspiring to make sure that I can't share that experience with my kids when the time comes.
Oh well. I imagine I'll get by, somehow.

Date: 2008-07-18 12:41 pm (UTC)I had a pumpkin container (I think I had like five of those XD) then a plastic bag that appeared later in the 90's.

Date: 2008-07-18 01:28 pm (UTC)I dunno. I'm all for nostalgia and recapturing the magic of youth, but is that guy going a bit overboard? I guess I don't get enough kid's meals to see if this is a trend or just an anomaly that this Pokemon meal doesn't have a special bag to go with it. What if it does have a bag, but it's just boiled down to employee apathy again and they just grabbed a plain bag? Or, they ran out of special bags? That's happened to me before, certainly, similar to how McDonald's can NEVER keep every item with Monopoly tokens in stock.
I probably spend more than my fair share of energy trying to revisit my childhood, so I understand the frustration, but man, things just change...

Date: 2008-07-18 09:35 pm (UTC)Hahaha, it's funny because it is pretty pathetic. XD
Anyway, I agree with you. We had our Happy Meal fun, now let's move on. For one thing, those Happy Meal boxes weren't exactly environmentally conscious. Even if BK/McDonalds is not trying to save money, someone would've come after them for it eventually.
We always bitch about how we get less for more these days, but if it means that much to anyone, they can just blame themselves. We still ate at McDonalds when they gimped the Happy Meal. We still paid the price they wanted. Nobody so much as raised a protest. It's like what I say to people who whine about how they can't get customer service at big box stores because of staff apathy and cuts. You want to save the money so damn badly? Don't expect a shelf monkey to be at your beck and call. Spend a little more, go to a private store and get a staff member who knows what the Christ they're talking about.
He's not serious. Or is he?
Date: 2008-07-18 11:42 pm (UTC)As for the boxes, they were thin cardboard. Perfectly recyclable.
And you know what? You're right! I am going to start an online campaign, nay, a crusade to bring back our youth so we can pass it on to our kids!

Date: 2008-07-19 04:49 pm (UTC)And it's entirely possible that they just ran out of fancy bags to put the kid's meal in, that happens all of the time. The Burger King I went to yesterday was out of Pokemon cards, which I'd say is even worse than being out of fancy bags. Heck, sometimes when they run out of tray liner mats, they put the kid's puzzle game sheet on the tray instead.
