Well, one of my worst fears of the past week or so has come to pass. Seems Dante found his way to the desk where I've got all my TransFormers and Rockman models on display.

Fortunately, the damage doesn't seem to be too bad... poor TM Megatron's no worse for wear, definitely. I thought I'd gotten him scared of going near the damned thing, but I guess not. I don't even know when it happened.

Most of it was put back, albeit a bit haphazardly. Red doesn't remember any of it. Fortunately, I found Sideswipe's gun before it was stepped on.

Anyway, I'm posting this here more to pose the question: has this happened to anyone else here? Is there a way to break the cat of the habit of getting near this stuff? I'm hoping maybe everything falling everywhere might have scared him enough so he won't do that again, but it's not a chance I'm willing to take.

So, any advice?

Yeah, there is, but you won't like it.

when my sister was staying here with her cats, one her her cats got on my G1 shelf and started chewing on thunderwing. THUNDERWING. jesus christ, I damn near exploded. but anyways, I caught her, slammed my door shut, and proceeded to hit the cat in the head with him.

the cat would enter my room after that, but NEVER go near the transformers again. if I was holding one when the cat saw me, it ran. otherwise, it was nice and friendly with me.

I wouldnt reccomend this with a kitten. and well, you'd pobably be killed by the wife if you did this.

...she knew the risks.

Anyway, I'll put that under the "extreme measures" pile...

What you can do is either lay down aluminum foil all around the area, or tape. If you use tape, I recommend you be a little careful with it, because a cat's first reaction will probably be to shake their feet and then try to get away as fast as possible, and usually that results in SOMETHING knocked over. So it'd be a good idea to lay it down a fair distance from your stuff too. Like if it's on a high shelf, put down tape on the shelf, but also below it where the cat has to jump.

go to a hunting supply store, buy a bottle of deer urine, put it in a spray bottle, and spray him in the face with it whenever he goes near them.

...am I to assume that deer urine is somewhat odorless, and won't stink the apartment or area up?

*really doesn't know*

my cousin says dog urine would work... just a little spinkle...
... or you could do it yourself... (my cousin comes up with the craziest ideas...XD)

Hmm, problem there is, there's so much of it that it reaches the edges... would putting foil on the sides be of any use, do you think?

Probably not, the cat has to touch or hear it make noise. Drives them nuts.

Squirting with water will also work, but that again can also cause the "HOLYSHIT *mad scramble*" reaction. But as an added bonus, when they learn that the squirt bottle = evil, they run away if you just shake it at them.

Maybe you can try temporarily moving some of the stuff to another area to make more room.

Eh, we're moving, anyway. Hopefully a solution will present itself then.

Squirting the cat with water might help. Get one of those inexpensive water guns and just shoot the cat whenever it goes somewhere it's not supposed to. It works with most cats and my vet recommended it to stop my cat from clawing up the furniture.

My brother-in-law has done that with Mango... not sure it's really helped, however...

In general my sister's dogs are pretty good at keeping away from stuff, but one time they got hold of my electric toothbrush and chewed it up like a bone, apparently it had the smell of food or something on it.....

In general just keep things you don't want the cat near on high places or blow a whistle or some other annoying shirll noise to keep them away from whatever you don't want them near.

Whistles might not work out so well in an apartment setting... unless it's one of those ultrasonic dog whistles. Can cats hear those too? Because that would be better - scares the crap out of the cat and makes it leave the area it's not supposed to be in, and doesn't piss off the neighbors either.
