My stupid day.
Jul. 12th, 2008 06:37 pmSo, went to a sale at Toys R Us that
frash told me about on TransFormers: Animated Deluxe toys, buy one, get one free. I got there, and nabbed Prowl and Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime.
These may just be placeholders, though. Prowl is the one with the stoplight on a cord weapon, but I'm more interested in the one that's supposed to have the sidecar that becomes armor. I'm waiting for more details on that one, though, so I may or may not trade out. If armored Prowl doesn't have the throwing blades or something, I may pass anyway.
Cybertron Optimus (doesn't feel right to call him "Prime" anymore, given there are three running around), I'm equally unsure about. He seems pretty neat, but where Optimus is concerned, I'm more interested in the Voyager one. Or even the vs. pack one, if they ever release one that doesn't look like Venom's symbiote is trying to take over. In short, Earth mode.
Shocked me to see that Megatron, the cool copter one, is $59.99, though.
Equally shocking was the movie scene pack with Barricade and Frenzy chasing Sam and Mikaela through the junkyard. They took a $15 figure, added some little unposable stand-ups, and tacked on $15 more. (And then tax, of course.) I'd love a black-version Barricade (versus the "mall security" colors), as I love the character, but not for that price.
They also had Wall-E toys, EXACTLY like what I hoped to find, at EXACTLY a price I didn't want. Little Hot Wheels-sized (not scaled) toys, including a little Wall-E, with or without wear (without is "factory new"), and little two-packs of Wall-E and EVA, re-enacting parts of the movie, like where she's holding a lightbulb that lights up, and he's showing her his little hat dance.
$7.99. Fuck. Me.
I asked about Wii Fit. Turns out they had a bunch this morning, and sold them all. Dammit all. HMV, EB Games, The Source, and Gamerama didn't have it, either. I'm on a waiting list now for Gamerama, though, but they've been "importing" a lot of theirs, and those go for $139.99. If they get a regular shipment in, then it's $99.99.
TRU had them for $89.99, which I thought was the regular retail, but it could be a sale because it's Canada, who the hell knows anymore? Anyway, they told me that when they have a flier is usually when to expect them to get more. Good to know, I'll need to keep an eye out.
But, I did hit paydirt in one area today. On the way out of my unsuccessful mission at EB Games, I saw Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Used. It was priced at $39.99, and was the only copy they had.
And had no instruction booklet.
So I passed on it, at least for the time being, as I'm a completist nut. That, and I decided to check Gamerama, since I was going to ask to be put on that Wii Fit waiting list anyway, and what luck! They had it. Used. $29.99. With instruction book. Check-mate.
I also grabbed a Star Fox Adventures Player's Guide that was on clearance for Red, as we got the game years ago but never quite got to playing it. Figure this may help save some time. A sad state of affairs, I know, but what can you do? I was also getting a Luigi's Mansion Player's Guide, though not the official Nintendo Power one I wanted. I played through a large chunk of the game, stopped for a bit, and now I can't figure out what to do next. I figure this would be helpful (yeah, yeah, I know, GameFAQs, I hate running back and forth. A lot of those FAQs are crap, anyway), and if I can't figure out where to go next, at least I may be able to restart and speed up to where I'm at and go from there.
Such was the plan, but the guy didn't ring it up by accident; he wound up giving it to me for free. Awesome.
They had other guides and games I wanted there, but I have to be a little careful how I spend: the TFs are a future investment, and the game is a "pass on it now, and you may never see it again" deal. Anything else would simply be greedy.
The big revelation for me today, though, is that I have got to do something about my footwear before Otakon. I've been dealing with blisters lately, and it's starting to wear away at the layers on my left foot in about the same general area (that sort of bulge on the bottom between the big toe joint and the arch) each time. I didn't even walk that much today, and it affected me. Easier to deal with, since we're past the tougher layers of skin, at least. Still, it kind of burns. Not badly, just feels hot and worn. If the little bit of walking today had this effect, then Otakon may leave me with but a bloody stump.
And before anyone suggests inserts like Dr. Scholl's(sp), those don't work so well for me, partly because that foot has always had a problem where any inserts slide up towards the front of the shoe/boot. Gets a bit uncomfortable. I used to wear these plastic inserts that were supposed to help my arches (I don't think they did) until I outgrew them, and often the part that was even contoured to the back of my heel would side up, uncomfortably leaving the bottom of my heel on the edge. And those flimsy Scholl's inserts just scrunch up, leaving my heel hanging over the edge of the back, and myself having to constantly straighten them.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm listening. Otherwise, may need to try and see a doctor. Otakon's in a month; I should've done this sooner, but it's only become a serious problem just over the past week or so.
New shoes may help, too.

Date: 2008-07-13 08:13 am (UTC)Have you ever tried wearing slippers/flip-flops? Not like it's a good solution or anything, but wondering what your experience is with that kind of footwear.
