It's Friday.

Everyone gets to ask one (or more) question(s), about anything at all, with a guaranteed honest response. This offer is open until I go to bed, which depends entirely on how much fun I'm having and how much wine I've been drinking it's not fun anymore/people stop.

Questions will be answered in the spirit in which they are asked, i.e. sincere questions get sincere answers. Etc.

These things never seem to get very big or anything, so the hell with that one restriction. I seem to be pretty bad at these, anyway.

Given your experiences, which to you like more: America or Canada?

Wow, that's a really tough one. They both really have their benefits and detriments, I'd say I like them both about the same, but for different reasons.

However, for reasons more personal than anything Canada/USrelated, I'd really like to be able to go back to NC, but unfortunately, circumstances have proven that my having health care is actually a very good thing for someone like me, so that's something of a binding factor.

One thing I do dislike is the way that Canada seems treated like something the US scraped off its shoe, though. And getting into the US is a far greater pain than getting into Canada.

Oh, wow, the full story? I'll see what I can conjure up here, but I'll try to abridge it.

We first met online in about 1998; I'd been reading some of her writing the prior year as I was discovering the internet and "learning" more about one of my favorite subjects, Mega Man. Boy, was the internet a different place back then...

Anyway, I rather liked her sense of humor and prose, so I wrote to her. And hey, she wrote back! And so I wrote back. And on and on it went, we became friends. And close friends, and so forth. Can't speak for her, but I think people around me were more aware of what was going on than I was; I'd been soured numerous times prior, and had effectively given up by that point on any sort of serious relationship with a girl, so for awhile, we were just "friends."

Well, you know that saying about a watched pot, right? So yeah, something like that.

We talked via e-mails, then on mIRC, and eventually started making occassional phone calls... I think it was in late '98 we first met in person; that or I was far better with money then, and I went up twice in the second half of '99. Anyway, we rang in the new millenium together in Toronto, and we'd had some visits before and after that. Long distance was a pain, the end of a visit felt like having a vital part ripped out.

As for dating... that's a funny term, because I'm not sure we ever "dated" by the traditional definition; we'd visit each other for about a week, and effectively spend every moment we could with each other. Sure, we'd do date-like things, I guess, but... it was never a "I'll pick you up for the movies/have her back by 10" sort of thing. But, we got married June 9th of 2001, so from first talking to marriage, I'd say we had about 3 1/2 years going on.

Hope this helps answer your question.
