Wow, some rather derogatory replies to that article. :/

Cool read, though.

And, seriously, NOA, what's with the angry Kirby all of a sudden? It's been like this since 4Kids' dub of the anime...

I was with them until Sonic. Sonic doesn't seem very US-ish to me.

Sonic has always been FAR more popular in the West than the East.
(or at least, in the past when Sonic's games were GREAT)

Not only did he have three different American cartoon series, but the still-going comic series by Archie. He appeared as a float in one of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades. Heck, even a gene was named after him!

It's also amusing to note that ever since Sonic got a voice in the games, he speaks quite a bit of Engrish in the Japanese language tracks.

Ooh, the Macy's Parade float... I wish I'd remembered that one. Oh well.

That may be so, but somehow to me that character doesn't seem especially American, even in spite of his popularity and "Bad Attitude" .. he's too wierd. Dr. Eggman/Robotnik .. too quirky, seems to represent Sega in my eyes and that's undoubtedly a Japanese company.

SEGA did start as an American company...

And the point of that part was to look at how strongly ingrained America was into Sonic overall.

Standard Games (later Service Games) started in Honolulu, but then relocated to Tokyo. The founders were American, still.

Correct.

Though, I suppose it could be argued that the Sega of TODAY is more of a Japanese company than the Sega of the past.

This much is true as well, though it seems that their subsidiaries in the US and Europe have, or at least in the past, have had a decent amount of power as well.
