So, the package from Ziff-Davis, which was delayed for somewhat mysterious reasons, finally arrived today. This is good, because that may mean our stuff ISN'T being stolen... and that Command Mission may simply be lost in transit. Ugh. Still, it makes a mystery of the whereabouts of Sonic the Hedgehog and our PS1 games...
So now Red has Donkey Konga and Mega Man Zero 3. They say Jews have no rhythm, so it must be the Irish half of her that makes up for it, and makes her a better Konga player than myself.
As for Mega Man Zero 3... fuck. Playing it on the GameCube is a bitch.
I tried to configure the controller to match the SNES/PS-style, in which B is attack, A is jump, X is dash, and Y is for secondary weapon functions(while not letter-perfect, which is purely cosmetic in this instance, it is as close to the layout of an SNES controller as you can get). Unfortunately, it's impossible to charge and dash in this configuration. So I switch it to a GBA-like configuration, though I set my dash on the right trigger, and weapon-change on the left. It sort of works, 'cept when it comes down to real ass-biting crucial timing. Then it becomes really hit-or-miss for me.
Really sucks, because I know that with a SNES/PS-style layout, the game is as good or better than anything on the Super NES or the Playstation, as Mega Man X games go.
So, unfortunately, playing the game on GBPlayer on GameCube makes the game more challenging, but not really in a positive way. Half the time, it seems my weapons don't change when I need them to, and dashing has become a little less frequent for me; when dashing, jumping, and attacking all need to happen in almost simultaneous succession, which has come up quite a few times.
Frankly, it's bothersome. I think I may just look into this or this to alleviate the problem.
And with that, the whole lot of them can suck my balls for it coming to this, where I have to pay extra money to get a damn controller that feels right.
I want my idea for a PS-port of the series to come true ASAP... it deserves better, IMO.

Date: 2004-10-14 10:34 pm (UTC)------Weapon2---
Weapon1-----Dash
-------Jump-----
Unfortunately, the shoulder ones are awkward to me for anything other than something odd, like weapon switching(as in X), or the occassional Giga Attack(or the Ultimate Armor Nova Strike, which requires little coordination of other buttons). GameCube configuration runs like so:
------Weapon2----
Weapon1-Jump-Dash
So Jump is constantly in my way if I want to charge and Dash.
Fortunately, there IS a chip that allows auto-charging... and ironically, it was a standard option in the later MMX games :P So it's a matter of finding that chip...
