Untold Tales
Oct. 5th, 2004 02:03 pmYeah, so me and some guy I know from somewhere decided that we were going to do this web comic strip. Not the sprite kind, either; though there's nothing really wrong with those, I do feel it's a medium that grows closer and closer to being worn down each day, save for those in which it plays a sort of significance; usually a game adaptation or parody. Probably half the webcomics in my Favorites list are sprite-based, to be honest.
Anyway.
So there we were, going to carve out our own little niche' in Webcomic Land for ourselves, of the hand-drawn variety; since artistic inclination is rather weak in me as far as actual drawing goes(as a result, my skills are adequate at best), and since it was his idea in the first place, Wolf was set to draw the comic in question. Me, I had the task of writing.
Took us a while to figure where we wanted to go with this. Namely, I didn't want to break into a full-blown, continuity-filled saga as some have become known for; rather, I wanted to take it day-by-day to start, with different gags, and only occassionally going beyond that when the call should arise, as others have done. To start, anyway.
Naming was another issue. So many comics out there, and Wolf was deathly afraid of treading too closely to what someone else had set up for themselves, so we wound up settling on NFN. You guess what it stands for, and you win a cookie.
So then we looked to a place to host this sumbitch. From all accounts told, Keenspace was the place to go; however, after gaining approval, I found I really wasn't sure how to code for something like this, chiefly because I'm not sure how the directories and shit work(such as how to recode the front page; my experience lies in creating sub-pages, I found), and Wolf was even worse off than I.
Anyway, long story short, it looks like the comic in question is up a creek for now, unless someone's willing to give us a hand in making a page; I've got my hands too full with crap like being evicted and job-hunting to try and make sense of this thing right now, and Wolf still doesn't know what is for.
Not to blow my own horn, but I'm glad we went with the episodic format; I'd REALLY hate it if we had some grand story to be told and only had four strips done.
Yep, four strips, and the four in question can be found right here. Page 1 and 2, writing credits go to me, 3 and 4 belong to Wolf, as well as all artistic chores. So click for a few moments, and check it out, and witness what might have been. Maybe Gabe and Tycho and Greg had nothing to fear from us, but it was fun while it lasted.
