Last I heard, Yu-Gi-Oh R was the new series, from when the manga switched magazines in Japan(sort of like Trigun/Trigun Maximum). This looks nothing like anything I know about.

It's the new series, which is just a spin off. Think of it as a bastard child.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! series is over... but naturally, they can't let the cash cow go to pasture yet! They need to beat it to the ground first with hundreds of sledgehammers.

Thus, they write a spin off, slap the name Yu-Gi-Oh! on it, maybe one or two cameos from the other series (Yugi's mentioned in the first episode, giving his RARE AND LEGENDARY CARD WHICH IS ACTUALLY A KURIBOH WITH WINGS, to the NEW main hero and thus inspiring him to become a TRUE DUELIST), and voila! NEW AND REFRESHING AND BUY CARDS PLEEZ.

'cuz, you know, naturally they can't tell Yugi's story. I mean, why would anyone want to see Yugi be the main hero?

... What? Bitter? Me? Never.

Hmm, I see they mention more about the GX version here... and it sounds like the original's not through yet.

That's exactly what it is. As Yuki said, it's made by someone else with some minor help from the creator. It's... essentially a fanfic, as far as I'm concerned.

Yu-Gi-Oh R is made by a different artist with some assistance with the creator. It's sort of an AU series and not an actual continuation/extension.

The One Who Succeeds Yugi

Yup! The main character, Yuuki/Yuki is Yugi's replacement successor! Ain't that kewl? =D We have a completely new cast with cameos of the old characters we loved and we don't ever have to see them again to get in the way of the new blood! We just have duels and duels and duels all day long and none of the mystique of the original series to distract us! YAY!

Seriously, I'm very dubious about this new series. I'm worried that it's going to be as much of a disaster as Digimon Frontier is, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW none of the new characters are related to the old characters apparently. That means Yuuki/Yuki is not Yugi and Anzu's son. Sad... I loved that pairing!


Oh why, oh WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY couldn't they do Yugi's story!? WHAT WAS SO WRONG WITH HAVING YUGI HAVE HIS OWN STORY!?!?! *writhes on the floor from the sheer injustice of it all*

Come to think of it, why didn't they even explain Bakura completely!? They left so many loose threads when it came to him! GRAAAAAAAAAGHWEGWSGWHEGRASRIOHGAEWOTFIAHSGRIAUSRHG!!!111
