This place has been a real oven lately. Cooking just makes it worse, and it sounds like August is going to be even worse still.

So, trying to come up with ideas for food/meals that won't likely heat this place up. I'm currently at... sandwiches with lunchmeat.

Not getting very far, as you can see.

Suggestions?

Sushi? Gazpacho soup?

Seriously though, one possible option is if you have a crock pot or any sort of delayed cooking device. That way you can put it on in the morning and it will cook while your gone so it doesn't produce as much heat. Granted this is assuming you have something like this and don't work from home.

I personally like salads for food during the high heat/late summer. Fruit salad in the mornings is very nice too. And yeah, do your cooking for the next day the night before or in the early morning, and it won't get quite so bad. Chicken can hold for up to 5 days in the fridge once cooked. At least in my fridge it always has.

Living in California, I feel your pain.

You might be accustomed to eating dinner at the same time everyday, but it might help to cook dinner later into the day (like sundown) to avoid the heat.

There's also various 'cool' salads (looks at above). Like shrimp salad. Mmm shrimp...

Jello works well. Cold bean dip or 7-layer dip. My mom has a really good receipe for it if you'd like it.
