Information wanted
Aug. 30th, 2004 12:44 pmSo,
zaphy was posting links to stuff on eBay last night, and one of the items she linked to was this, a pair of the Hong Kong-released Bandai Rockin'action figures from Rockman.EXE.
Now, the auction says it's straight from Japan, and maybe it is, but I can't help but be a little wary. I've been wanting these two in particular(all of them, really, but these two just a LITTLE more...), and though I'd rather have the original two-pack(come on, the bigger box just has some kind of coolness over the single-packed figures), I may have to settle for these...
Not now, mind you. This is for future reference, when I'm working, rich, and touring the continent's anime conventions as an honored guest. Right.
Anyway, quality is a concern of mine. Does anyone have the Hong Kong version to compare with a Japanese version? Doesn't have to be the same figure(that'd just be kinda silly, though I can understand several reasons someone would), but I just want to know how they compare. I have a Normal Style Rockman.EXE from the Japanese release, and I'm pretty happy with it.
Oh, and how to tell the difference? That's fairly simple. The top-right corner has a Rockman.EXE logo. If it's in Romanized alphabet(what you're reading right now), it's the Hong Kong version. If it's in katakana or whatever it is(the non-English-readable symbols), then it's Japanese.
Why am I concerned? For one, Hong Kong quality tends to REALLY be all over the board, from touch-and-break to some pretty sturdy stuff... I've actually heard of some HK versions of toys that are superior to the Japanese quality(I believe they were TransFormers, even). But frankly, including Blues' sword with Forte sort of makes me wonder about the quality control going on here. An honest mistake? I can accept that, I suppose. But I'd rather hear some testimonies for future reference before I start filling out the rest of my collection with HK figures... when I'm rich. Or I find them being sold .50 per box by someone without a clue. Whatever.
...though in that last case, I'd probably buy them anyway. But you get the idea.

Date: 2004-08-30 12:20 pm (UTC)I've had wierd foreign digimon digivolving figures, that I assume are bandai (I saw a chinese Bandai logo, I think...) and they seem to look and work just as fine, also they were a dollar, so it was too good to pass up. Too bad that Megakabuterimon digivolving figure I bought earlier was a bootleg (it was really crappy too).
I assume when Bandai mass produces a figure for other countries, it's probably the same mold and should have the same general quality.
Yeah the Blues and Forte figures packaged individually was basically either: A. a scheme for you to buy both or B. they just cut the packaging in half and totally forgot about it.
I'm assuming more on B.
Also when Bandai releases things, generally the japanese version is more superior in terms of acessories, like the High Grade Universal Century Japanese RX-78 had a bazooka, while the English version didn't, and the SD Gundam Force Destroyer Dom only comes with three or four weapons in the U.S., but his japanese version has weapons up the yin yang.

Date: 2004-08-30 01:20 pm (UTC)The fact is, the figures LOOK, and are PACKED in the exact same way in which the japanese ones are o_o Right down to the weapons and the viruses that come with them. (the only curious thing is that Forte has Blues' sword, but it makes sense since the japanese ones were packed TOGETHER in a two set. Blues had alot more stuff, so I guess they had no room for the sword)

Date: 2004-08-30 01:27 pm (UTC)For example, in the lower right corner, it'll have the name of the figure, while on the originals, or at least mine, it says "It's PLUG OUT to you from the CYBER WORLD!!"

Cheaper if you just buy them seperately.(You'll save about $10)
Also these perople have good feedback ratings, so you dont' have to worry about Forte or Blues getting lost on the way home.
