Jul. 7th, 2007 03:58 amSo, Red and I got some BK earlier; I insisted on the Kids Meal, largely since we weren't super-starved and were just looking at cheeseburgers and fries anyway.
Naturally, with them running a TransFormers promo (click to hear Peter Cullen narrate the menus as Prime), and my inability to really get the big toys (6 bucks for a Legends figure my ass), this is what I'm resigned to.
That said, I'm pleased with what I got. I think they've been running this for a week already, and since the mall BK sucks and I've had issues with our normal restaurant, I fear I may have missed some already, maybe even Prime and Bumblebee.
Since we each had one, she wound up with Ratchet and I got Scorponok.
Then the guy took those back and put two bags on the tray, each with a Ratchet. I made the trade later.
These may not be more than meets the eye, but they're fun in their own way.
Scorponok has been a rough one for me. I've seen the deluxe toy at retail, and I am only drawn to it in the most bare-minimum way possible, that being that he's a TF and part of the movie. He's a neat design and all, but damn sure not $15 neat. Not to me, anyway. I'd rather have Blackout with the mini-Scorponok he launches. Because Blackout kicks ass anyway.
All that said, I've actually had a bit of fun with BK Scorpy. He's a slightly chibified version of the character, with his arms at an odd vertical angle. Which is funny, because the old McDonald's Beast Wars Happy Meal toy of TransMetal Scorponok had the same problem with his arms in robot mode: they both look like they want to surrender. The ultimate Decepticon/Predacon captive.
Well, the BK one here has kind of a neat gimmick. You rotate his claws back, so they're pointed at his tail, and he'll roll across the table/floor, and spring up so that he's thrusting his tail at whatever lies before him. And he does it pretty well, at that.
Ratchet is interesting. Out of the wrapper, he's in his Search and Rescue Hummer form. There's a tab of sorts on the front that you push, and the top half flips up, revealing a robot mode Ratchet.
What's fun about this is that when the thing is closed up, he's all bent over at the waist. When it opens, a spring in his leg stands him up, and his arms fold out, flexing like he's showing off his muscles.
In short, Ratchet is the Hard Gay of the Autobots, by my reckoning. Better still, he can be removed from the Hummer base to stand alone, maybe even have one leg posed for a kick. Woo!
So, yeah. That's my thoughts on the two I have. Hopefully in the process of feeding, I'll find myself with more. They aren't very good as TransFormers, but as licensed product, they're definitely fun pieces.

Date: 2007-07-07 06:35 pm (UTC)Pity the Autobot toys of that promotion were so bad, but at least the Decepticons were pretty cool. I especially loved Jumpstarter Starscream (JumpStarterscream?). He actually became the basis for the ship my characters use in a Legends RPG.
Too bad we missed out on the Energon McD's toys like they had abroad. A tiny Unicron? Awesome.
Burger King's Cybertron toys were sort of ok, I guess. Jetfire got to be the token hostage toy of that lot.
Ooooh, thanks for the comics-- is it the whole set? Just wondering, because my comic shop is holding some for me, and I don't want to tell them "put 'em all back" if that's not the case, y'know? :)
