May. 22nd, 2007 09:23 pmOk, doing a little better today.
The police, as noted, were fucking useless. Upon gathering more information, I guess we can safely assume that breaking into, trying to steal, and making a mess of someone's vehicle is not in fact a crime. This can not only be attested by me to their lack of assistance, but their lack of assistance to numerous other people who've been struck, all up and down the apartment buildings of a major street.
Next time they come around looking for donations, they can go screw. If it takes someone getting killed (or conversely, accidently speeding, let's say) for them to take any sort of action (unless you're rich, no doubt), then the hell with them.
Lucky me, I had to go to the doctor with a huge bloody chip on my shoulder, and I wound up more or less passing on work as a result. I don't think my angry demeanor would do me much good in getting people to take a survey unless I was in their face with the seeming intent of drawing blood. I'll make it up on other days.
Joy, that's going to be lovely. Sigh, oh well.
Information can be powerfully inflammatory, or it can be surprisingly sedating. Me, I got a taste of both today.
I found out that this likely happened at least a week or two ago, more likely the two, since the neighboring building with whom our building shares the garage and I'd probed for info and assistance revealed there had been a string of these down there. I do have a slight hunch as to who it may be, but unfortunately it's far from anything with much credibility. Nor do I actually KNOW them, and IDing them would be difficult as well, since it's been several months.
Knowing that this occured some time back offers me some solace. Odds are, if they've left it alone for this long, I probably don't need to worry about a return visit. And even then, if they did return, I imagine they'd be more interested in the vehicle itself rather than the contents therein.
Which is why I'm going to see about removing the battery. I imagine thieves might have ways around the Club, among other things, but carrying a compatible battery strikes me as a lot less likely unless they seriously have a hard-on for a '97 Jeep Cherokee with a healthy coating of dust all over.
So, there's some relief there.
But, I still have a serious beef to settle. Our building has a superintendent, and another guy that works on the building.
Evidently, the other guy, who had parked next to me, has known about the break-in for awhile.
That's why he no longer parks next to me. He doesn't even remember when he saw it.
And the mother fucker never even bothered to tell ANYONE. Least of all me.
This. Will. Not. Stand.
Red says, and fair enough, that people aren't obligated to do that, and that's fair enough. I could expect that from another tenant.
But from someone who fucking WORKS for the property and is the one who checks out the garage, among other things? Who moves his own vehicle to an outdoor spot BECAUSE he saw what happened to mine?
I am going to have words. Angry words. Even the superintendent was taken a bit aback that he hadn't heard anything, either.
This is crap, and it's not going to end here. This, I can assure.

Date: 2007-05-24 06:54 pm (UTC)If you create enough of a stink about the maintenance guy moving his parking space and not telling anyone, you might be able to get the Super to fire him. Don't know if you want to cycle that kind of karma, its not like he could have done much to help anyway, you just would have known sooner about it. But it might make you feel better, I don't know.
The important thing is that the car wasnt on the road, so it won't affect your commuting or anything, and no one was hurt. It sucks that it wasnt insured, but it would have been worse had they actually taken anything. (You did say there wasnt anything taken, right?)
