Dear Mexico,

Sorry we didn't just stand aside and let you come and conquer America with minimal resistance. We'll try and do better next time.

Sincerely,

US

In all seriousness, though, the other plan near the bottom sounded pretty fair to both sides (maybe more than fair), so I can see why they would be upset. At the same time, I'm not sure that the new plan is entirely UNfair... just maybe less fair, especially to those expecting the latter-mentioned plan.

All the same, they should have anticipated that problems would probably arise BEFORE they decided to jump the border, not after the problems made their presence clear.

It's a bit of an issue, and I'm not without my understanding of it; coming to Canada's no picnic, either.

And personally speaking, I've just never had any desire to go to Mexico (I can say the same about several places, truth be told), so I guess I can sort of understand why there might be a desire to leave.

Earn your fucking work visa, come over, learn English and the fucking laws and maybe we wont want to throw your stupid asses out.

I can say that, because I'm a(n) LEGAL Mexican American who speaks English, obeys the rules and parties out at TACO BELL.

Do all that and i have no problem with them.

Don't? then get the fuck out of America. We got enough problems.

WE NEED MORE CANADIANS PLZ.

This makes me happy, because this plan would essentially make it useless for any immigrant (especially the Mexicans, where the real problem with illegals comes from) to come here, because, hey, who can really afford 3500 a renewal? They come here because they need money. Not because they want to spend money.

And I love how people (the city of Los Angeles especially) seem to think that illegal immigrants have a right to be here, and work here, or have ANY actual rights here that are permitted to US citizens and visa owners.

Either way, this makes me somewhat pleased with Bush, despite him still being a douche.

But why would you want to alienate legal immigrants?

Given that even European tourists that want to visit the states have to jump through hoops and sign away their freedoms before they can step on a plane, it's not that surprising.

I agree, except that I don't mind immigrants coming here. I just want them to do it legally.

(I can admit from experience and research that sometimes they can be real douchebags about it, but just the same, their house, their rules.)

It's the latter part that gets me-- and it seems they keep wanting more rights. Wasn't there some talk of them being able to vote?

That, and their coming in but often refusing to integrate into society in any good way. Like learning English. Instead, last time I was in NC, it was looking like a Mexican version of Canada: everything was in English and Spanish together.

Quebec has French as its official language. Which in some ways is fine enough, given that they actually have some sense of organization to get most of the French Canadians into one spot.

Pity some idiot PM had to make it so that it affects the entire damn country, though, and we can't even get some products here if there's not French on the packaging/in the content.

But yes, I totally agree, I at least like to see some sort of effort that shows they tried to learn more than "no speak English."

As you said, if I go anywhere, I don't expect the locals to bend over and kowtow to me just because I couldn't be bothered.

Yeah, that's more or less it.

Hell, I'm lenient on #4, circumstances pending. Trying to help them move or something, or maybe paying for care for someone really sick is understandable.

"I'm making more money here, so you take some of it and keep living there" doesn't really count the same, though.

4). Seriously, you ignorant foreigner, don't send any of it back home. Capitalism ain't no stinkin' charity.

Eh... I'm of the view, if they earn the money legally, they're free to do with it what they want. The few dollars they do send back home have a much larger impact there than the loss of them does here. And honestly, the world wouldn't be worse for a little more charity in it.

At the risk of having my head bitten off for taking an unpopular view, the truth of the matter is, the immigrants wouldn't be coming here if someone wasn't making money off the deal besides them. Since illegal immigrants are "off the books", they don't have to be paid minimum wage. And while you hear a lot about charging illegal immigrants fines and fees for work visas, there's not a whole lot being done to stop the companies that are encouraging them to cross the border. If you want to stop the problem, it makes a lot more sense to really track down the route of the problem. The fact that there are things like health programs that also make it beneficial to be in the country illegally.

As Dennis Miller once said, "Illegal immigration is wrong. Why? Because it's ILLEGAL." But as long as companies in the States have an economic benefit to lure workers over and held them dodge the system, it's going to keep on being a problem.

Wouldn't mind seeing something done about that, either.
