So now, PayPal evidently completed its step without telling me shit-all, and I have to wait for a couple of small deposits to my account to show up, about 2-3 days it says, and I have to tell them how much they were for.

Oy.

In other news, Red's latest is up at 1up, "Aging Gracefully," a look at how game characters keep their audience.

I sort of question the Mega Man picture there, as it doesn't feel to me like it conveys the changes from year to year and series to series as well.

In that same portion, the question is posed: "Is the fact that our avatars were adult characters a reason why we're still able to cherish them and take them (semi) seriously as adults? Conversely, do you think the children's properties of today will ring hollow to today's children when they are grown because the characters are all juvenile?"

I've sort of wondered that myself, as my interests have shifted a bit in recent.

Moving on, I miss updating PMO. /_\ I've been missing some good stuff lately.

Bills continue to come in... UPS sends another later, I'll tell them to go to hell later.

And a pair of packages. Rather, pick-up notices. One is from Canada Post, saying we owe $20.20, and addressed to "N. + D. Oxford." Yay.

The other's a new one on me. "DHL Express." Looks like it's for Nadia, probably more stuff to review.

They clearly have no idea how to leave one of these, as most of the stickerback was left on, and I found it on the floor of the lobby downstairs...

Don't know what else to say.

Oh, there's something.

Damn cats... *goes to see what they're doing now*

What the? I hope that's not the package I just sent... I sent it express through the Post Office, but I swear I didn't put any extra insurance on it this time!

Oh crap, it probably IS the package I sent... Next time I need to just declare the value of the contents as $0...

Be interesting to see what happens there.

Sigh, probably customs, or the Ministry of Assrape which seems to be a joy to deal with, fucking your rights and all that...

Are my packages the only ones you guys have problems with? I guess I still haven't learned my lesson about mailing to Canada:

DECLARE NOTHING AND CROSS YOUR FINGERS

Heh, guess that'd be the way...

I'm not sure if yours is the only, but the only recent ones, I think...

Yeah, you're right, because I don't recall the packages I sent in the past to be this big a problem. Some kind of new anti-US legislation?

not new, it always happens! I easily spent more than $900 last year getting my imports through customs. They were all game-related items from the states and Japan but duties of $12-50 start to add up really quickly. This year I've saved a bundle by having friends in the US and visiting them to pick it up stuff I ordered. That's not the cheapest option but it was kinda fun :)

Yeah, that sounds right... It just seems that they never had to deal with such high fees in the past when I sent stuff, even though I've always just declared the value of things on the package like I am now. Maybe they were just lax before, for some reason?

That sounds cool though, visiting pals in the States! Road trip?

You know, same here. Those were the days, eh? I should've bought more stuff earlier ;) Now there's a good chance that they are checking things a little more thoroughly to go along with the general increase in security measures.

Usually it's a road trip down to Virginia but I ended up flying last time (usually I only fly to places like LA and SF since driving is less than economic). I picked up a bunch of stuff from my friends at Microsoft, some belated Christmas presents from other US friends, some stuff from Amazon, the replica Master Sword and Hylian Shield, and a bunch of games. I declared it all when I came back through customs but since I was down there for 2 weeks there were no fees to pay... aside from the whole flight + food, of course.
