lbd_nytetraynI hate shopping for car insurance in Canada. Or Toronto, whatever. Prices here are basically double what I pay in the States, even though the exchange rate is only off by around 10-15%, and as far as I know, wages are relatively similar. Maybe.
What's min-wage in the States, anyway? Oh, wait, Here we are.
Wow, $6.15 back home. $8.00 here. Pay is better, but still... damn. Not exactly that much better, eh?
I hear they want to raise it to $10 (no idea who "they" are), but the irony is that with a higher min-wage, Red tells me employers are less likely to want to hire as a result.
So ultimately, I guess that the economy is set to fuck you straight up your ass so far that you'd cough up pubes, unless you manage to break out of that bracket of income. Which I guess is ultimately what I need to do. Problem remains, still, the question of "how?"
Temp agencies want no part of me, because I lack experience. Another great irony in the system. So great is it, that I wish I could just sit back and watch the whole thing collapse in on itself.
Red insists I keep trying, so I'll give YUTA another shot, though frankly, I think it's become apparent as a waste of time. Sort of like Iraq. Yeah, we can keep doing what we're doing, "stay the course," that doesn't mean the results will change. Sort of like physics or chemistry, perhaps.
Tonight, I work on getting some query letters done and sent, in the hopes of achieving the ultimate irony of this entire entry: perhaps managing to earn enough to afford auto insurance by taking part in a job that has absolutely no need for it.
That, and as noted previously, I really hate going out in the cold winter weather as a result of what it does to my body. So funny then that I should happen to live in Canada, known for precisely that kind of weather, regardless of what time of year it is.
Even though it does get a bit warm around the summer months. I've heard stories of tourists arriving in July with skis and wondering what gives.
I wish I could be paid for my musings. Then it'd be like being paid just for being me, because I am "a musing". Ha!

Date: 2007-02-07 02:18 am (UTC)Man, if only you could see some of the people we get as temps... The bad ones truly are just temporary, but if you do alright and they have the room, you may just get hired. I thought the whole point of a temp agency is to find able bodies that you'd have to train...
The whole "dollar" thing has always been messed up. Even when the exchange rate was worse, I remember looking at things like magazine prices and thinking, "No way is this an equivalent price after currency exchange." And yeah, insurance is expensive anywhere you go, I guess...
