Feb. 2nd, 2007 09:48 amI have this craving for Pizza Hut.
Had this dream night before last that Red and I were at one of those Pizza Hut lunch buffets. It was good.
And now I crave Pizza Hut.

Date: 2007-02-02 02:57 pm (UTC)I follow the two-strike rule, especially if something's new or different. If it sucks the first time, give it a second chance. Someone probably just screwed up.
If it's bad the second time, it was probably not much good to begin with.
Varying locations helps, too.

Date: 2007-02-02 03:27 pm (UTC)I got some boneless wings, though, and they were very good. And a while back when they had the lasagna pizza, I really dug that... This time it felt like they just did the best with what they had, but what they had wasn't so great. Y'know?

Date: 2007-02-02 03:37 pm (UTC)There's just that sinking feeling that's creeping up on me. In my eyes, Pizza Hut was always #1, with Domino's pulling in a decent #2. But whenever I did feel like trying out Domino's, it wasn't bad at all; I just preferred Pizza Hut. One thing about Domino's I really liked was their deep dish, though. But after years with them, they changed the deep dish. They started charging for delivery, which was understandable, but still a little worrisome. Then one day I ordered from them and found it almost entirely inedible.
I figured it was just the case of a giant living out its life. It may have been great in the day, but eventually it had to come crashing back to Earth... I've been with Pizza Hut for a long time so I don't want to think the same thing's happening to them, but lately it seems like they have been slowing down...

Date: 2007-02-02 03:49 pm (UTC)And Pizza Hut needs Reggie back. But I don't think I want him leaving Nintendo for that. ;P

Date: 2007-02-02 08:26 pm (UTC)But oh, I sort of forgot about this, but have you heard about uWink? Created by Nolan Bushnell, who actually founded Chuck E. Cheese as well as Atari? I had no idea he was behind Chuck E. Cheese until I heard about this uWink thing...

Date: 2007-02-02 08:33 pm (UTC)And yeah, Nolan rocks, I think I've briefly mentioned his thing a little bit on PMO. uWink sounds interesting, though I'm not entirely unsure it'd be so different from maybe Playdium or Dave & Buster's, the latter of which I really want to go to sometime for more than an interview (upon which I get passed up on. Sigh.).

Date: 2007-02-02 08:40 pm (UTC)I haven't been to D&B too often, but the few times I have gone, the games selection hasn't been terribly exciting. It's not terrible, but nothing I was thrilled about... If only they had the Mario Kart arcade game!

Date: 2007-02-02 09:00 pm (UTC)If memory serves, it actually used to be SEGA Playdium.
Tears me up inside that there's only the one now. Red took me to one downtown when we first met in person, it was a really good time. Probably have some pics around somewhere... we should really get an album sometime.
Mario Kart Arcade GP at D&B would be awesome, but the one we have here has a decent selection on games, at least.

Date: 2007-02-02 05:14 pm (UTC)I dunno... To me, their pizzas seem TOO greasy... and so small. It's strange. I remember being at my grandparents' house one day, and we ordered a large pizza. And I couldn't help but wonder if it was always that small... because it really looked smaller than a large should (and we all pretty much thought that).
Though, I really liked their specialty pizzas they used to make back in the day. The Triple Decker (and Triple Deckeroni) and the Stuffed Crust were a couple of my faves. And the Twisted Crust (or whatever it was called; the kind where you could rip a "breadstick" off the crust) was good, too.
As for Domino's... Guess I'm kinda like Shinkuu. They were good, but I liked Pizza Hut more (or used to, anyways). Though, I still find them fine.
Now, my favorite pizza chains are (in order):
1) Sardella's (a local, family-owned chain, so you'll probably never get to try them unless you came to Arizona)
2) Papa John's
3) Little Ceasar's
Mmmm.... Pizza... [drools]

Date: 2007-02-02 07:18 pm (UTC)Triple Decker/Deckeroni? I don't remember those, I wonder if they're worth Wiki's time...
I love Little Caesar's, largely for the Crazy Bread on the side and I love their sauce, but I've only seen one in Canada, and it's nowhere near here. As far as I know, back in NC, it's just as rare, if not more.
Papa John's rocks.
Domino's and Pizza Pizza I like to. But to me, getting Pizza Hut pizza and say, Pizza Pizza pizza are as different as hamburgers and hot dogs. It's different tastes, and depends on my craving sometimes, hence the specification of Pizza Hut above. They're all pizza, but they have their own unique qualities as well.

Date: 2007-02-02 07:41 pm (UTC)I like Little Caesar's as well, but you're right, they are a bit rare. I remember they used to only accept cash. I haven't seen one in ages! Back in California there was one near my home, though. Sometimes some kids from school would head there during lunch, during their "customer appreciation days" when single-topping pizzas were something like $2 each. A steal!
Papa John's is great, as is this new place that opened up near my apartment (Vocelli's). But I think my favorite pizza would have to be Papa Murphy's, but it's take-and-bake. They have the freshest ingredients ever and the pizzas always come out tasting great (better with more toppings), and relatively cheap to boot, but the one downside was that they wouldn't deliver. They were all over California, and there were even some in New Mexico but they were relegated to these little counters inside supermarkets rather than having their own dedicated building. We have some up here, kind of, but the nearest one is in Ohio.

Date: 2007-02-02 07:51 pm (UTC)Steak pizza? Can't remember if I ever got to try it. If not, I wish I had.
Isn't Cheeseburger still around, tho?
"Take-and-bake?" You have to cook it yourself?

Date: 2007-02-02 08:35 pm (UTC)Steak pizza was a loooong time ago... I guess most of these Pizza Hut specialties are. I don't know about cheeseburger pizza, since I haven't seen that in ages and I've moved around quite a bit... You know, it seems like they might've revived it in recent times, but I honestly can't remember the last time I had a slice. I think it was Domino's that had the recent version of cheeseburger pizza! That was pretty damn good!
But yeah, take-and-bake... You'd have to bake it yourself. At first I thought, Great, this'll take a half an hour or something. But once you have the oven preheated, it just takes 10 to 12 minutes! The stuffed pizzas take longer, though, like around 20 minutes or so. But they use really fresh, quality ingredients, so it's better than heating up a frozen pizza and LEAGUES better than the generic supermarket deli take-and-bake pizzas.
Papa Murphy's used to have this deep dish pizza that was INCREDIBLE. It came in this foil container that reminded me of the things Sara Lee pound cakes come in. Layers upon layers of sauce, meat, and cheese... But the last time I saw a Papa Murphy's in New Mexico, they didn't have those. Maybe they only had those in the California branches, or maybe they were discontinued... shame, really... I tried making my own but the ingredients end up costing way too much and it doesn't taste so great if you just use stock Pillsbury pizza dough.

Date: 2007-02-02 08:57 pm (UTC)Most sauces, I don't like too much of... just enough for taste, I'm not a tomato sauce fanatic like Red is.
The exception being Little Caesar's, I can take a LOT more of that stuff, I can almost drink it by comparison. Which is why the lack around here is so disappointing.

Date: 2007-02-03 07:54 am (UTC)According to Wikipedia, there's currently about 2,000 locations... Down from their peak of 5,000 in the 90s. Ouch.
Another pizza brand I like is the stuff they serve at Costco. Kirkland's Signature, I believe it's called. Prices are pretty cheap (I can't remember what they are at the moment...), and the slices are HUGE. Really, one of their slices is more like two slices. And pretty tasty, to boot.
