So, Mario Kart 64 has been fun, and frustrating, in alternate cycles.

One thing I do like regardless, though, are the little character-select icons. I thought it might even be neat to have one or two around for LJs or message boards or whatever. If animated, even better.

So far, I've come across this and this, zipped packages of icons, but they have a bizarre extension, ".ico". I have no idea how to properly use that.

Anyone have a clue for the clueless?

.ICO (which has nothing to do with ICO for PS2 :P) is the icon format. This format is used for file and folder icons (i.e. .EXE, .JPG, My Computer, My Documents, etc.).

I'm not too familiar with creating/dismantling icons (though, I have created an icon of Bass.EXE's emblem), so I don't know if it'd be possible to convert those to a avatar-friendly format.

My best suggestion is to use an N64 emulator, and screencap the mugshots frame-by-frame. And then animate them in a GIF animator. That is, if someone else hasn't already done it.

Ah, might be too small, then.

And I don't have an N64 emulator, nor have I really room for one (that is, with the space games would have to take up) at the moment.

I'll keep my eyes open, I guess.

Project64k (k = Kaillera netplay version) is pretty small. About 1MB for the ZIP. And then Mario Kart 64 is about a 10MB download.

Hmm, pretty good... I was hoping to have the frames for the thumbs-up of Mario, too.

This may do in a pinch, though.

Am I helpful now? (http://www.rockmanpm.com/staff/iriasu/Icons4Nyte.rar)

The N64 emulators doesn't have perfect graphical shading to properly display icons, so the best thing is to dismantle the roms by hand and get the icons that way. But whatever works for you is good enough. Oh, and in the future, you can try using Iconomaker to open up the ICO files and convert them to other formats of your choice.

I have a program back at home that might be helpful, but I'll see if it can export ico into individual gif. Ico's are a pain to work with. Although they're handy in creating your own desktop themes (mouse cursors).

ICO's are not hard to work with at all. Either way, I already used Iconomaker and exported them all into PNG, and linked them above. At least that's something. :/

I just get the Photoshop .ico extension and transform it in there. >.>

That seems to work... downside is, and I guess I forgot to specify, is that I was hoping to find the "selected" icons, or at least both, with a chance of animation. Mario giving a thumb's up, or Wario sinisterly twisting the end of his mustache...

Most ideal would be to have them sitting like normal, blinking, and occassionally moving for the pose.
