Notes from Saturday Morning TV

1) It's funny to hear Yu-Gi-Oh voices on Fox Box, especially on Sonic X. Hearing Brock/Kaiba announcing contests and upcoming shows is amusing, too, because I hear more Kaiba in it, except with all this joyful enthusiasm. His is a favorite VA that I should really learn the name of sometime.

2) Ok, I have no problem with a girls-only show in the form of Winx Club, even though I don't consider much on Fox Box to be boys-only. Ultimate MUSCLE, I guess, fits boys-only, and maybe Ninja Turtles...

In any case, I don't mind it being there. I just mind constantly having to hear about it. -_-;

3) Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh, yamibakura, magnus_samma, anyone... can you please tell me at exactly what point Yami Yugi lost his ability to initiate Shadow Games, instead becoming the bitch of everyone else's?

4) Finally, back to Sonic X. Liked yesterday's ep, with the big floating fortress I thought was the Egg Carrier... except it was never named as such, it didn't look quite like what I remember it looking like save for a few parts, and it got blown up a bit too soon. Also, the X-Tornado is neat, but reminds me of something else...

Brock and Kaiba were done by Eric Stuart, I believe, who also did the voice of Gourry in "Slayers."

I'd say the X-Tornado reminds me more of Macross' Valkyries, in that its Walker mode apes the Gerwalk mode. But that's me.

That's the beauty, though; I've seen people make Gerwalk(what the hell does that MEAN, anyway?!) modes from this toy mold as well...

...or at least, the one it was based on.

He never lost it. He just doesn't do it anymore. He stopped after he dueled Seto on the tower where he scared the hell out of Yugi by trying to kill Seto. He realized that by doing it, he was just as bad as everyone else. How can he be mad at Pegasus for doing it when he did it too, sometimes even worse? ;P You should see the crap he did to people in the manga. Burning people to death, souls getting eaten, making people see only in those checkered censor things, scorpion bites, everything looks like money, the list goes on. There must have been a physciatric ward labeled "People Who Pissed off Yami"... And he got mad at Pegasus for giving him a taste of it? Heh. ;P

I've seen the manga, at least, a good chunk of what Viz has translated so far, so it's not unfamilar to me. :) I just kinda figured he did it in the name of justice before, and that he might do it to those like Marik or whoever that might actually deserve it. ;P

Incidently, I don't remember him doing it often if at all in the anime so far... was it cut out? Or there at all?

Of course, as far as Pegasus giving him a taste of it... eh, lacked the irony I love.

The manga can basically be broken down into two eras: The pre-card game era, and the after card game era. The after card game era composes the largest chunk of the story, and thus in the anime the card game is seemingly given a much bigger role. Thus the pre card game era composes an anime series that really ended right before Yugi and Kaiba dueled the second time, and a new anime series started up again where that one left off. That second series, the one that deals with Yu-Gi-Oh after the major integration of the card game, is the one we got in America. The other series wasn't released in north america, probably because Yami was such a mean little 'tard in it (can you imagine how ridiculous it would have been to try and edit out Yami burning that dude alive?). So yeah, in the anime Yami doesn't come off as nearly such a bad guy as he does in the manga. I can't really say much beyond that, given as I've never seen the first series, and I still haven't seen any of the manga beyond what we've seen in Shonen Jump. I think it's getting pretty close to the start of the Duelist Kingdom arc, tho.

Hmm, I thought the new anime(I was aware of the old) retold some of the old in a condensed format or something(such as Yugi Vs. Kaiba's duel in Kaiba's tower being the first ep of the anime we got here).

Anyway, I never thought of Yami as evil; I just saw him as extreme justice; vigilante style, almost(like the Punisher), perhaps following methods from an age long past(maybe you could get away with this shit in Egypt, back then, and it'd be acceptable?).

As a side note, yeah, you probably could have gotten away with that shit in ancient Egypt if you were the Pharoah, since they revered the Pharoahs almost like gods.

He's only used the "Penalty Game" Two times in the American Anime, as far as I can tell. The first episode, where he fights Kaiba, he banishes that "dark part of Kaiba's Soul to the Shadow Realm" (which is bull, as Kaiba continued to be a complete 'tard). The second time was when he cheated, playing against "Kaiba's Shadow", that funky fat guy with pink hair (wtf was up wit' DAT, yo?).

I didn't know there was an anime based off the NON-card game part of the Manga... I'd like to see that! I'm kinda sick of the card game... I liked the fact that there was a new game in each episode...
