So, going through my Friends List, and here are a couple of things I've seen:

From [livejournal.com profile] gelgameth: ...Sooo. I'm going to go back to just enjoying my games now. The Wii has made its much deserved splash, and I have plenty of major counterpoints for people who want to call my favorite games and systems kiddy. Now I can feel confident that dismissals of Nintendo are, frankly, just dumb.

From me in reply: And kiddy? So what? What the hell does that even mean?

Then shortly after from [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu: Anyhow, three things for yesterday:
-Nice diversion at work
-Went shopping at Best Buy
-Played some Viva Pinata. I GOT A FUDGEHOG.

Emphasis mine. My reply: That sounds so gay...

...not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

Sigh. One of my favorite sweets has been eternally ruined.

After posting that, it occurs to me that I'm pretty damn sure that it's the same people(not specific persons, just general type/group) who ruined fudge that call games which I (and others) like as "kiddy."

So to that end, why should I give a fuck what they think?

lol Viva Pinata, I kind of wanna play that game...
The show isn't so bad too. Better than most of the crap on 4shame besides TMNT.

Haha, Viva Pinata is one of the best games for XBox 360 right now.

So yeah, who cares what people think as long as you have fun with the games you play? I used to care too much about what other people thought of the things I enjoyed, but I realized, Hey, it's what I enjoy. Nobody else should ruin that for me.

I think calling games "kiddy" is akin to mocking someone who wears glasses. It's picking on an obvious trait and trying to make it negative when it typically has no bearing on quality and can sometimes actually be desirable. I'm not sure, but I think kids these days have grown out of the "four-eyes" jabs in favor of other forms of insult, so maybe someday gamers will grow out of this "kiddy" argument as well.

Thats a bit harsh on the pinata names there dude. Some of them are far cornier than that... Horstachio, Chewnicorn, the pain goes on forever... :)

Who's talking about the rest? I can't think of "fudge" any more without terms like "fudgepacker," "fudge factory," and "Hershey Highway" springing to mind.

It's been ruined. :(

Ah, I had no idea you were such a huge fudge fan! Well, maybe in a couple decades these old terms will seem antiquated and boring, eh? Then we'll find something else to make fun of.

But what's so bad about fudgehog? It's a fudgy hedgehog! Certainly doesn't have the same connotation as those other terms. I don't think...

"Kiddy" is a bullshit complaint. The one example I can think of is everybody's initial reactions to Wind Waker - just 'cause Link looks kinda cartoony, people expected it to be like Dora the Explorer or something. It wasn't "badass" enough for them, or some crap like that, when in reality WW was probably one of the most mature games in the series. Link was cartoony, sure, but he had a helluva lot more personality than, say, OoT Link.

And yeah, it's the same thing with Viva Pinata. I've only played a demo, but it seems really cool - hopefully something Xbox 360 will see more of in the future. I mean... not everything has to be Gears of War or Halo. :P

The final fight with Ganon in Wind Waker was probably one of the better sequences in the whole series, just for pure drama, and actual depth of narration. After the triforce hunt I was meh on the game, but that last sequence was enough to get me to go for a second play through.

The insult really bugged me when I thought that might actually lead to the Wii failing. The very thought that a system with some of the greatest potential of any of the coming generation could be destroyed just because a bunch of fools don't consider it "adult" enough. It... was maddening. I suffered enough of that with the Gamecube and the bullshit claims about it being a weak system.
