Know what? Fuck Battle Network 3. For all the good stuff I'd said about it, it just reached a point where it's too damn annoying early in the game. At first the random encounters don't seem to come as much, but after the first boss, they amp it up, and they won't let you run from a fucking FISHY!!! Add to that no recharges between battles, a carryover from 2, unless you spend a fortune on Subchips, add to that strategically set-up enemies that ENSURE you'll get your ass kicked when they consistently fail to give you the chips you need!

And I also hate these damn Swordy viruses. They don't give Longswords half the time, and when I DO get them, they aren't a code that can go with my Sword and Wide Sword. So no PA for me which would've been SO handy so often.

I swear, were this game not Mega Man, I'd never have touched it. And if it weren't for the fact that I like the story, art, music, characters... in other words, everything but the stuff above that interupts the FUN, I'd drop the whole damn thing.

This is why God gave us Gamesharks, Pro Action Replays, and the like. I don't care what any company thinks of them, maybe if they'd LAY OFF the "fuck the player over" factor in these games, the companies making these devices would go out of business.

It's just crazy. Getting a low Virus busting rank when you beat it as fast as humanly possible with what THEY give you... they can just fuck off.

Sort of makes me wonder if this is why ShoPro has gone to such lengths to separate the games from every other license of the property over here... to keep kids away from the frustrating part. On the other hand, kids seem to like it more. Maybe it's the ones with less stress in their daily lives, and the ones who can devote more time to playing games as opposed to job hunting, working, running to the bank, paying the bills with their teeth, etc. Maybe those people and Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons are who this shit is made for. I dunno.

Capcom says that when MM9 comes out, it'll be aimed at the oldschool, those who grew up with Mega Man. If that's the case, I hope they keep the old style of challenge to it, rather than adding a dumptruck of "fuck you over and up the ass" bullshit wholesale slaughter to it.

The most common trick with video games is "don't make it harder, just make the enemy better than the player"

That isn't the case here.

The game isn't a cakewalk by any means, but it isn't unfairly challenging either.

It can be... and I've found that the number of random encounters seems to grow vastly after only a short amount of progress. When you can't take five steps without getting in over your head and not being able to run, THAT is unfairly challenging.

One point, I had so many random encounters that I could barely play the actual quest for all the fighting I was doing.

And some fights ARE unfairly challenging, especially if you don't have chips lined up to get you through it.

Well, having played the game last Summer, I don't recall any of that being too much of a problem. When I got tired of random battles I would save after running so far and soft reset if I hit a battle. If I was getting beat I just changed my strategy a few times until I managed it. The only PA I really used was Lifesword1 and even that was a rare occasion.

I didn't say that was going to be challenging, I just said that they make most games more difficult by making them unfair for the player. I haven't played the game itself, so I'll take your word on it.

Bubble Man EXE is a big giant pain in the ass and all his incarnates are just as obnoxious.
Yeah too many of the bosses make you just want to scream in pain.
I mean Blues EXE is hard even the first time sometimes.
I hate how they make you rely on PAs more than anything.

I don't blame you for being steamed, I sort of gave up when I reached secret net 2. (I had to go insanely collect bug frags) Oh yeah that's another thing I hate! Bug Frag collecting, it's so hard to trigger those often enough.

Your problem is that you're just not used to RPG's. Play Breath of Fire II and call me in the morning, if you still have your sanity.

Fishy, Swordy ... does Capcom want to make games or Fisher Price toys?

RPG or not, it's still rediculous. Not to mention, it shows a lack of advancement in the genre. Something that's been around for many years like Final Fantasy or Breath of Fire, I could halfway excuse, because it's something they've been doing for a long time, and it's a part of what they are, I suppose.

But when building a game from scratch in a map that's already rather hard to navigate(improved, yes, but still rough), it's just crazy. I might not mind so much if there was some sort of built-in map, but some battles are rough enough that I totally forget what I was doing, and as soon as I remember or figure it out, I'm in another battle. The game is literally keeping me from playing the game, and I think that's idiotic, no matter the title.

I still think a Chrono Trigger/Mario RPG-styled encounter system would work better for this, especially being a newer game series.

And I think "Fishy" looks more like an odd birdy, personally.

Fishy's upgraded brother is named Condor, so that sounds a bit better.

Fishy Flappy and Mushy.

Kinda stupid that they make you rely on a block for that... but compared to before, I guess it's something.

X4-6 weren't that bad for me, though... although 6 can be a MAJOR pain if you don't do it JUST right; it's almost like precision gaming, which I really hate and think has no place in the MM games.

And Falcon Armor is cool, but the Ultimate Armor is now and forever more my baby.
