Dunno what IGN's problem with Mario Vs. DK is, but I think it's a pretty good game. I also like how they make DK a much more relatable, sort of interesting villain by putting him in a predicament I think we've all been in: you're bombarded with ads for something on TV, you decide you want one, and when you go to get one, there are no more.

Granted, he takes the matter into his own hands in a less-than-legal matter, but admit it, you've wanted to do the very same thing.

In any case, I think it'd be neat if we got to play as DK at some point here, since I'm sure some of us want to take his side. Like anyone who's wanted a Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Disc. People been wanting those things like mad lately, and we only got in some on Tuesday.

Another interesting thing about this game to me. The graphics? Pre-rendered. The cut-scenes? Pre-rendered. The title screen? Pre-rendered. The box-art, as well as all the other promotional art? Hand-drawn, oldschool Mario style, like back on the NES, Game Boy, and Super NES. I don't particularly mind new art of this type, but it just seems to really clash with the rest of the game's presentation. Did they go over budget on the computer stuff and this was cheaper, or what? As much as I want to, and do, like the art, it still just feels weird and out-of-place.

Strange I don't get that feeling out of Sonic Adventures 1 & 2. Maybe it's because I didn't have a flier for them...

Good game, anyway, it's one I plan to recommend a lot at work. Now, if only they'd redo DK '94 this way... or at the very least, give it color. Super Game Boy be damned, the game still didn't have much except on the map screens. Mario was wearing BLACK AND FUCKING WHITE, for crying out loud!

Better still, take both, get them rendered with the SSBM models, add a museum mode with the originals, and sell it for the Cube. I'll fucking buy it.

And before I go out, here's an intersting point to note. Wario Ware for the GameCube costs less than Wario Ware for the GBA, at least at Toys R Us. Go figure.

Hmm I can't see the sprites that well, but they look pretty nice, does the game have the usual Multiplayer Mario Bros. or any other Multiplayer thing. Even though the plot is super cheesey, it still sounds like worth a play.

Nope, no multiplayer. And I rather like the plot. It's just so... perfect. For this, anyway. (Unless you meant cheesey in a good way, but just about anything involving DK is going to have some of that)

"Problem"? 8.5 is an excellent score.

I was discussing the weird disconnect between the prerendered game art and the hand-drawn official art just yesterday at lunch. I think poor DK has been forever saddled with prerendered graphics, but, Nintendo almost unfailingly uses hand-drawn art to promote their handheld games, probably due to demographics and target markets and the mistaken assumption that only kids play portable games. I don't mind, really -- the in-game graphics are too tiny for the prerendering to be offensive, and post-Rare DK looks a lot less like ass when he's drawn by hand. So it all works out pretty well.

Well, not saying the score shows a problem... but the reviewer just really gave me the vibe that they'd rather be playing DK'94, and this one shouldn't exist unless it mirrored that in every aspect, going on about the graphics and sound, which seemed to ruin half their experience(that is, to listen to them talk, it sounds that way), but I loved those parts.

Again, about the art, I don't mind it at all, it just seems to clash. Had the cut-scenes been drawn, I could see it flowing better, but as it is, it just seems like an odd contrast.

Personally, I don't even mind Rare's DK so much, since Miyamoto designed him anyway. And it fits in well enough with Smash Bros.-styled rendered Mario, Link, and the rest.

Also, I didn't know that drawn appealed to kids more than computer generated. In this age of Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and Shrek, it seems they'd want to stick more to that look.

Anyway, as much as I like hand-drawn, as you said, the pre-rendering does work well here, and in the end, it does sort of add to that retro-feeling.

On a side-note, I know continuity is the last thing Nintendo is ever concerned with, especially with Mario, but is this supposed to be the original DK(Cranky Kong, but younger), or the Rare DK(DK Jr.)? They promote it like he's the original...

...but as I said, I doubt continuity is a huge concern. Given that they say Mario has been training in the sewers for this bout, when all he does in the game is happen to walk in on DK stealing the stuff, I don't think the promos matter.
