Aug. 30th, 2006 10:32 amA couple of thoughts on refining PMO, just thought I'd throw them out here.
One is that I'm thinking of making the news lists just stuff that sort of speaks for itself, or stuff I don't have as much to say on, and anything that takes maybe more than one paragraph getting its own seperate entries.
Second, either way, I really should come up with a name for the newslists I do. Any suggestions?(yes, I realize that asking people to help come up with it doesn't count as me coming up with it, but I need efficiency, not semantics, dammit)

One thing I'm not too fond of (not singling you out, but just for LJ and the Internet in general) is when there's too little or no description for a link, just something that says "Check this out." I mean, sure, it can tantalize the viewer into reading the link to see what it's actually about... but I sometimes find myself just skipping it, since the Internet promotes short attention spans more than any other medium.
I used to go to Fark.com all the time, and I'd see an article with a funny or intriguing description and open it in a new window... But then it would take a few seconds to load, so I'd go on down the list at Fark and find something else interesting, click on that, etc. By the time I was done with news for a day, I had dozens of windows open, some of which were dead links (maybe from traffic overload) and others had headlines that made me think, "Huh? Why did I open this...? And what headline on Fark.com was it from?"
A name for the newslists? Something like "The Daily Spore" or something? Or you could be super geeky and call it "dot" (for "damage over time"), since it's... well, PoisonMushroom.org. I dunno! Don't take these seriously.
(damn, I screwed up the comment the first time!)
