Wired takes a look at doujin.

In related news, doujinshi takes a look at Wired, and creates several unauthorized pairings, many of which involve same-sex relations.

Cool article! It didn't just focus on the smut factor, but the idea that allowing derivative works to flourish can actually be a good thing.

Plus there's doujinshi games... Not necessarily porny, just fan-made games based on an existing property. Entire games!! They sure have more dedication than we do.

There was a forum I used to visit (and even moderated! But due to time constraints, I've pretty much given up on regular forum-visiting... for the time being, at least) called Zelda Fan Game Central. There were a lot of fan games being made there (and not just Zelda-based ones!). Sadly, not many came to fruition. Mostly due to overambitious goals and time constraints of most of the teams (most of them still being in high school or whatever, for example).

I dunno... I think American fans are just as dedicated as Japanese fans... but are just too lazy or too busy to complete their fan projects. :P

Can't say I really care much about the pr0n stuff (or do I? I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I have a hard time knowing how I really think), but it does simply fascinate me how in Japan, you can sell stuff with copyrighted characters, and the law doesn't bust down your operation.

Whereas here in America, even if you do something for free, the big guys will still stop you from trying to have fun.
Isn't that what it's all about? Fun? It's all about supporting what we love, as fans, and they want to tell us we can't? Seems kinda bizarro, if you ask me.

America is Bizarro Japan... Or maybe Japan is Bizarro America... Whichever the case is, American companies suck for trying to put a stop to fangames. >:O

Sure, they have every RIGHT to. It IS their intellectual property. But betraying your fans is the worst thing you can do (isn't that right, Sony?).
