Aug. 15th, 2006 11:12 pm1) Reggie's obviously not a fan of the "Wii60" movement, as he'd rather have someone buy LOTS of his product than his product and someone else's, according to his interview with USA Today.
It does make sense to say that, from a business standpoint, and in fairness, I think Peter Moore was trying to slam his #1 competitor in Sony when he began the whole thing, rather than try to promote Nintendo. Simple math tells you that for the price of a PS3, you can get a 360 and a Wii, possibly having to only spend 50 bucks more to have both.
I'm sure that now, we'll have Moore say he'd rather people invest in 360s and stuff, too(I'm sure he's thought so all along). I mean, I guess it is an honest preference.
Still, Reggie...
Oh, and here I thought Wii online play was already confirmed as free. My bad.

2) Reissue Soundwave? The one who met his wife in a Christian chatroom?
Sold. If the price isn't absurd.

4) Huh, so SEGA is "reviving vintage brands" through other companies, I guess some would argue because they can't manage the job by themselves. Golden Axe appears to be one such brand under Secret Level's care, though the others seem to be mysteries.

5) XBox looking at a new controller to improve shooters? And the possible return of trackballs as well?
Be neat if the two coincide, and SEGA can finally release a home port of their arcade "SegaSonic the Hedgehog."

7) Oh sweet Jesus, I hope this is true.
I will hug Reggie and cry on Mario's shoulder if this is true.

13) Why the next gen sucks, in a nutshell.
Bad enough you only really get to see a marked improvement on HD TVs, but that games are coming out unplayable on standard? Oy. Remind me to thank Nintendo again later.

Date: 2006-08-16 07:12 am (UTC)And of course I have to wonder if it'd even work on my TV!! Man, oh man.
You know what I realized the PS3 needs? What's the one market that thrived on the Internet during the infamous "dot com bust"? That's right, porn. Perhaps this will be what America needs to break into the "dating sim" genre of games.
Although, despite all its problems, it should do well enough for itself anyway... All you need are three words: Final Fantasy 7. Even people that don't care about the new FFs will want to play an updated version of the classic. It's Sony building a foundation almost solely off past success. What's new?

Date: 2006-08-16 08:06 am (UTC)3) And I still don't care much for Silver. And, maybe it's just me, but those graphics look a bit low on the poly count... I thought PSP could do something a bit better than that? Ah, well. At least PSP is getting another original game (and not a PS2 port), and it's a 2D Sonic, to boot!
(2D in the sense of the gameplay, not visuals, obviously)
4) If it's Vectorman they're reviving, I hope to God it doesn't look like that awful PS2 version that got cancelled.
6) Ya know, I think the ESRB does a damn fine job of rating games. It's just the two "big" issues (Hot Coffee in GTA and nudity in Oblvion) are blown way out of proportions, especially since they're not normally accessed through the course of the game. They require third party modifications (which also inclues the PS2's Action Replay). Heck, you can't even do the nude patch for the 360 version of Oblivion (as far as I've heard, anyways), and yet it still gets rerated.
We have to stop passing the responsibility of parenting to the developers, publishers, retailers, and the ESRB. Be responsible for your own damn kids, or don't have kids at all! There's too many of you hairless apes as it is!
7) I see $180 more likely than $170. $170 seems like a pretty odd number to choose for US MSRP, but not so much $180 (I think that was the price for PS2 at one point). Plus, you can't use conversion rates ever to pick the prices for other regions (especially European prices! €600 ≠ US$600). But, it's also possible for them to sell it for LESS. If memory serves me right, the DS Lite, in Japan, costs the equivalent of US$145. Even so, we got it for $130 in America.
8) This brings up a question I've had... What will they call Wii's "non-games"? Can't be Touch Generations, since the Wii isn't about touching (DS is). "Point Generations," maybe??
9) Oh, man... The hypertext for your link makes me want a DVD boxset of the cartoon SOO BAAAAD. I loved EWJ on the Super NES... 3D... Haven't played it, heard it was awful... And I liked his cameo in Clay Fighter 63 ⅓: Sculptor's Cut, too bad that game was a Blockbuster rental-only). Here's hoping his PSP outing doesn't disappoint! If it is good, it'll be another reason for me to get a PSP (existing reasons: Lumines, Powered Up, Maverick Hunter X, Loco Roco, etc.).
11) It's odd, the original upload of that was deleted. But, I'm glad it's back online. I loved it so much!
13) I can't believe Capcom made such a huge oversight (considering that about 70-80% of TV owners don't have HDTV yet).
14) As I've said on my posts at Joystiq, the DS homebrew scene is definitely awesome. :) So much cool junk, that isn't copyrighted! (but may be infringing on copyrights. :P)
15) Beats me how that's positive, but I love owls. So, yay.
16) K.K. Slider and Mr. Resetti FTW! And we need Tom Nook and Kapp'n, too!
17) Looks helluva lot better than the 2600 version of Donkey Kong...
18) I never gotten into Castlevania seriously... But I want to, one of these days...
19) Prototype stuff is always cool to look at, but never to actually USE. I mean, look at Protoman! [sniper'd]
21) It's hard to say. Once people found out that Sony wouldn't be pricing the PS3 the same as Xbox 360 (which many were betting it would be), seems a lot have jumped the Sony ship... Yeah, yeah, you're getting great tech for the price, but that doesn't justify what you're paying to play video games.
23) Croiky. Now I hate zombies moreso than before.

Date: 2006-08-16 01:52 pm (UTC)Works for me.
17) "Helluva lot" may be a bit much.
18) Castlevania's a great series. Some are HARD, though.
19) Dunno, Star Fox 2 rocks. And I love the graphics on the earlier versions of SMW more than what we got. And I still want to play White City.

Date: 2006-08-16 09:24 pm (UTC)17) No, I think it's about right. I mean, 2600 DK's Mario looked outright awful. He looks pudgier than he normally does, and looks like he's wearing a one-piece pajama suit or something... And DK looks pretty bad, too. And the barrels have been mistaken for cookies (but they're not that tasty, though).
18) I like hard. For example, I love the MMZ series, even though many complain it's too hard. Then again, I also loved Megaman & Bass, which a lot of people also say is too hard (especially for Megaman).
19) Okay, you got me on Star Fox 2. Ya know... here's one possible (but HIGHLY unlikely) door that Virtual Console could unlock: access to beta stuff. Purely for extreme fanatics and the curious of pre-gold games, we could see what was not meant to be. One thing I'd love to try? Resident Evil for Game Boy Color. It looked pretty good, honesty.

Date: 2006-08-16 09:52 am (UTC)23) You can't break a console with a particular game. What you can do is expose a previously undetected broken console by using some feature of it that hasn't been used much before. Part one of Xenosaga in the US revealed that a large chunk of people's PS2's had knackered DVD rom drives that couldn't read the second layer. Cause it was the first game to use a dual layer disc, they didn't know until they bought it.

Lemme dig around a bit, and I'll reply here again in a few.

Date: 2006-08-16 02:38 pm (UTC)I feel at this time I ought to mention those characters with more realistic proportions than Mario and Luigi didn't come out quite as well.
You seem to be missing Mario with a hammer (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Mario/Mario/Small+Figures/Mario+with+Hammer+Applause+_Black+Hair_.JPG.html).
Also worth pointing out is that many of the Marios(not sure about Luigi) come in both black-haired AND brown-haired versions. I always preferred brown.
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Link! (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Zelda/Link+Items/Small+Figures/Zelda+II+The+Adventure+of+Link+Link+Applause.JPG.html) And in package (http://www.buynsellit.com/displayitem.cgi?item=8036656).
And then there's Little Mac (http://www.buynsellit.com/displayitem.asp?item=8163227), in package.
Oh, also: On the right side, there's a spring-loaded Mario toy (http://www.stuffucrave.com/games.html). I myself have a Mario that looks like the McDonald's Mario 3 one, but in red overalls (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Mario/Mario/Small+Figures/Regular+Mario+Applause+Springy.JPG.html) and no Raccoon features. Also, a Koopa Paratroopa that looks quite similar to the one Mario is stomping on your figure.
Yeah, here we go. Koopa Paratroopa (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Mario/Mario+Enemies+Items/Small+Figures/Koopa+Troopa+Applause.JPG.html) and the springy version (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Mario/Mario+Enemies+Items/Small+Figures/Koopa+Troopa+Applause+Springy.JPG.html).
Applause also made some pencils (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Mario/Mario/Small+Figures/Mini+Mario+Climbing+Vine+Glitter+Globe+Pencil+Topper+Applause.JPG.html), including this topper here, and some that are affixed to the side, with a pencil painted like either a vine, or a flagpole with a flag at the top (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Mario/Mario/Small+Figures/Regular+Mario+Applause+Springy.JPG.html)(the one I have).
This one with the mushroom, I've not seen before (http://www.videogamemm.com/v/Mario/Mario/Small+Figures/Super+Mario+with+Mushroom+Pencil+Topper+Applause.JPG.html).
Results tend to vary depending on how far into the Applause stuff you want to go, but just type "Applause" in at the VGMM there, and it should show you a lot of things, including banks and clip-ons(featuring a bald Luigi--yikes).
Hope this helps! At the very least, you know of a new Mario, Peach, Link, and Little Mac now.

Date: 2006-08-16 04:32 pm (UTC)As for the brown and black hair, I have a couple stray browns, but the set I posted photos of on my site are all black haired. I can't say I went for one hair color over the other when buying, but it just seems to have worked out that way.
Thanks again!

Oh, and the non-springy Koopa Paratroopa might be one to keep an eye out for, as well.
Anyway, glad to be of service. Good luck filling out the collection!

Date: 2006-08-16 04:01 pm (UTC)And as for racers, well the controller has analog triggers of course, so you have full wheel/pedal functionality. Only difference is you don't have the satisfaction of playing on an unpractical novelty controller and having spent a lot of money.
on Wii diet game (8) -- what on earth is a Wii diet game? :|
on Star Fox Command (10) -- "I'm unsure about "up is up and down is down," however." Well it makes sense considering it's with a stylus. Right?
on Tetris comedy (11) -- funny. :D
on Dead Rising SDTV flaw (13) -- That's the ULTIMATE fail. Capcom is hideous!! Anyway LBD, don't blame the next gen, I have two Xbox 360 games, and they work fine. 2 + 2 =
on positive PS3 news (15) -- "PS3 is rlyrly awesome!" It's just someone in the industry who totally digs the PS3. Funny how that becomes news. :o
on Castlvania Bloodlones (18) -- Just telling us about a good game we might not have played? Unusual post, but cool and relevant.
on Geometry Wars (22) -- what a romantic letter!! But one would doubt it would make a difference.
on Dead Rising again (23) -- what?? that's crap. This is obviously Capcom propaganda to make it look like Microsoft's fault. 8|

10) I'd have to try it to see where intuition leads.
11) Classic.
13) Oh, I'm just sort of joking about the next gen, though between this and King Kong, one has to wonder a) How common the problem could become moving forward, and b) if there's a way to fix it that doesn't involve reprinting the game.
Hell, a toggle between standard and HD might be ideal.
God help us if Sonic has this problem.

13) jeez LBD don't scare me like that. If Sonic has that, I'm not sure what I'd do. :[ :[ Maybe wait for a reissue or something. We'll see I guess. But anyway, at this point the only games that have this problem are just 2: a movie port by Ubisoft, and a Capcom game that apparently wasn't so finely made anyway. For the defending I do of Sonic Team and their current rep, it would look really bad for both of us if they pull an objectionable, undeniable fail like a non-SDTV release of their biggest title. gah
