Aug. 14th, 2006 06:17 am...that last post reminded me(but I didn't think this would fit anywhere there).
I still haven't seen the end to Mario Vs. Donkey Kong yet.
Which is too bad. The earlier levels certainly evoke the style and feel of the levels from DK '94, but later on in, it just feels like it becomes absurd, and just not as much fun. Another case of the early part of the game being good, and the later feeling cobbled together. Too common these days, I think.
And sadly, it lacks the charming touches like the cut scenes and such which helped DK '94 keep its hold on you.
It's a game I want to love, but can't. Not entirely.
And it really makes me a little paranoid of Mario Vs. DK 2: March of the Minis. Here's hoping the new setup works towards a better game.
I wonder what other DK games I've not played might be worth a try.
Can anyone recommend DK Jungle Beat? It looks like a lot of fun, and the graphics look beautiful as well.
How about DK: King of Swing?

Date: 2006-08-14 03:42 pm (UTC)DK Jungle Beat is a lot of fun, but short. There's a lot of replay with the different grades on the levels, but there aren't too many levels. I bought it new, and I haven't traded it in yet though, so that should say something about how much I like it.
If you can borrow a copy, or rent it, I'd suggest giving it a try before a buy to see what you think.

Date: 2006-08-14 05:31 pm (UTC)Cobbled together makes me think of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, and Super Princess Peach.. games that alternate rapidly between quality and.. blandness; as well as rather revealing holes in the game balance; where things either become too hard or too easy in a drastically swingy way (more on the latter for.. well, both really, but sometimes the former).. that had me thinking that they forgot what the characters powers were when designing the game; or like some of the powers were afterthoughts; or only half finished.

What I remember was some over-complicated puzzling and such...
