Part 1, if you missed it.

So much stuff, I had to take a break. Man's gotta eat, y'know.

1) I still gotta try Super Mario War sometime. Sounds like it's changed a little since I last spoke of it.

-----

2) The Best the SEGA CD has to offer.

-----

3)

Stephen Colbert + Internet Ingenuity = Pure Awesomeness.

-----

4) I totally agree with this. I prefer tangible to intangible games ANY day.

-----

5) Oh-ho-ho-ho, I wanna go!

-----

6) 1UP takes a look back at Worlds of Power. I still have some of those books, and I really admire the motivation behind the works, even if the finished projects were... odd, sometimes.

And I agree with PTB that more fiction like that today certainly wouldn't be a BAD thing, especially if it got people into reading more.

-----

7) *spits*

...yeah, right, see how long THAT lasts...

Ninja Gaiden was my long-time favorite, though when I recently read Bases Loaded II for the assignment, I think that book edged it out a little more.

Mega Man II was my favorite growing up, as at the time there was NO other fiction except the Captain N cartoon, which... well.

I remember being disappointed they never made a Mega Man III or Ninja Gaiden II novel.

Or prequels to Mega Man II and Castlevania II.

Oh, and you have to wonder how the titles for whatever Nintendo games they were hoping for would have gone, had the deal not fallen through.

If Peter Lerangis got to do Zelda, that would have been AWESOME.

No problem, didn't realize his link went into the second page of the article, though. But I liked the mini-rant about "no use of guides," and figured if anyone was interested in it in the first place, they'd go to the real deal after reading the piece.

It would be interesting, though I also have to wonder what changes would be made.

On tangible games (4) -- I honestly would not mind intangible games because it removes the obsessive aspect altogether. I don't have to worry about new vs. used copy or worry about the disc getting smudged up or damaged, or -anything-. Like, the article makes examples with online games, but that's just online. Single player would never changes as long as you have your copy, and you'd keep your copy as long as you keep your console. But a good point is made: it puts more pressure on the console. Like, if my console randomly malfunctions, it would be a ripoff to have to re-buy all the games I had, or not even be able to if the console isn't supported anymore.

aaand here's my 'On Notice' board:

Nice board. :)

And I do see the benefits to downloadable as well; I'm sure I'd have had an easier time getting Contra: Shattered Soldier had it been a download, I'm sure.

But I'm always paranoid about something going wrong, as you said, and losing my games and having to re-buy them.

And honestly? For the money we pay, I'd rather have something I can hold in my hands. I take good care of my games anyway, so I'm only worried about smudges and scratches and such if I buy second-hand. And I don't think they'd charge much, if any, less just because it's to be downloaded; they'd find some cop-out, no doubt.

I mean, weren't CD-ROMs and DVDs supposed to make games cheaper because they cost so much less to produce than chips for a cartridge, as well as weight and such? And now the talk is upwards of $100 for a PS3 game.

If there was some sort of safety net involved in the whole downloading thing, like a record or registration that would allow you to re-obtain a bought game if a problem occurs, I'd be much more warmed to it.

There's also the fact I like the boxes and manuals, though many aren't as good as they once were...

As far as online games go, that's part of why I never got into that stuff. Steel Batallion was one I really wanted to try, and Capcom cut that off rather quickly after release, as I recall. And that's an expensive game...
