Ok, so after catching up on other stuff, I get to sift through news from the past two weeks. Joy.

Of course, I pretty much held off on looking at any news that I could until I could sit down and do this.

So here we are.

If there's something I missed, that you think I'd be interested in knowing, please feel free to link me to it in the replies. Otherwise, I don't want any crap about "this is old news" when I find out about it later.

Yeah, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

1) So Jack Thompson and Adam Sessler had some words on Attack of the Show recently.

Or so they say. Everyone but Mark Friedler seemed to be stepping on each other. They really ought to just cut the mics to those who aren't supposed to be talking. They're trying to make it more compelling by seeing two grown men get flustered and yelling at each other about points they're passionate about, but in the end, it becomes a muddled mess which isn't even worth trying to figure out and in the end, nothing comes of it. I pretty much agree with Kotaku here.

And the short amount of time for this? Hell, a debate like this ought to merit a full special.

-----

2) Bad news for PSP, great news for DS.

Like 'em, love 'em, or hate 'em, having EA go cold on you is NOT a good thing for your platform.

Sure, it's not a death knell for PSP, but it's still gotta hurt.

-----

3) Bomberman: Act Zero is out now, and evidently isn't gaining much favor for gameplay. A pity.

"The most depressing thing about this game was how Hudson was all 'Yeah, this is what we wanted Bomberman to be like originally.'"

-----

4) According to The Allspark, Toys R Us is marking 15% off of everything on their new online store. So if you do your shopping online, move yer ass on over there.

-----

5) IGN holds a roundtable to discuss whether or not Sony is in trouble.

-----

6) GameSpot goes hands-on with Star Fox Command for the DS. So does GameBrink. And 1UP.

The verdict?

Well, it doesn't sound BAD, but it sounds like the original game was still better.

Come on, Nintendo, give us an official release of Star Fox 2, that game rocks.

Oh yeah, why'd they go back to speaking Animalese here? That voice filter option sounds pretty neat...

Online play might be fun, though.

But I'm still uncertain about the stylus-only controls.

-----

7) De-nied.

Pity, I'd love for an anime set in the "main" Rockman universe to happen, but at least they still have plans for it.

Read somewhere that part of the problem might've been due to the animation or something.

Personally, as long as the story's good and the characters are on-model, I can deal with something like they show here.

And if you haven't seen it already, go check it out(I didn't notice anything unlike what was shown previously, though, as AF said).

I'm just glad that ZX interests me enough on its own to make me not worry about all the X/Zero crap going on at the moment.

-----

8) Ha! Ha! Ha! So while Nintendo continues releasing two versions of its hit Pokemon series, Capcom plans to one-up them by releasing THREE versions of Ryuusei no Rockman!!!

I guess I'm down for the Draco version, natch.

-----

9) Don't know what's more amazing, that there's a new game I want for PSP in Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins, or that Capcom is still making stuff like this on PSP.

I'll probably keep to the easier settings, though. Those games were rough...

On a related note, I find the part about using polygon models because it makes the scaling easier(for shrinking and such), as that's part of why the developers of New Super Mario Bros. took that route.

-----

10) Wow, a 30-game SEGA Genesis compilation?

Lucky Sony owners.

Oh, right.

Anyway, I think a revamped 3-D Alex Kidd might be neat...

-----

11) Wii to launch with 27 titles?! My poor wallet... my poor, empty wallet...

My list? Excitetruck, maybe Dragon Ball Z, Zelda(if it opts for traditional controls), Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel, and Wii Sports.

-----

12) Man, why is it always the crappy PlayStation versions of games that get picked for this stuff?

-----

13) Wow, Ubisoft really loves the Wii.

-----

14) Woo-ha, not only is the system cheaper...

-----

15) Go Gates, though I think Vrignaud is a bit off on the import. I can somewhat understand the point where dates are concerned, but stuff that's not released here? Something just really irks me about being told "you can't have this" about a free-market consumer product.

-----

16) I remember when CES was the big show for gaming. Will it be so again?

And I didn't know the new E3 was pushed back to July. That sort of creates a conflict with Otakon...

In addition to CES and the others, I think I heard somewhere the possibility that PAX could take up some of the slack, too.

-----

17) When I saw this headline, I seriously thought Nintendo was involved.

-----

18) Hmm, sort of makes me glad I wasn't hired there years ago when I'd applied at EB.

-----

19) Huh, it's like Sony's made their own version of Smash TV.

lol Sony stealz, or something.

-----

20) It looks like Video Power, but without the(dated) fun.

And a rather... odd name. I'm pretty sure "button-mashing" evokes few positive connotations in the minds of those gamers who hear it.

-----

21) More new Sonic the Hedgehog screens. Yay for Shadow not being confined to vehicles.

This stuff looks really good, if a tad queer(in instances like the bumpers). I just really, really hope it plays well.

-----

22) Cool, a famous Japanese lawyer endorses Phoenix Wright.

...and is that a hint that the third game may not be the end of his adventures after all...?

-----

23) The good news: The second volume of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show will be out soon. At least in the US. We still don't have the first volume, or Zelda, or Captain N here yet.

The bad news? What were they on when they made that box art?

But the bonuses look neat, at least. The first was lacking, as I recall...

...except the eps. Why are those bonuses at all?

-----

24) Wow, Dustin Diamond has all the lousy luck.

But, "you don't mess with the D-man's videogames."

-----

25) GameDaily previews Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. Also, a look at the potential of Super Smash Bros. Brawl online.

-----

26) Like the Care-Bear Countdown, only much hotter, GameTrailers looks at the top ten women in gaming.

-----

27) zOMG, izzat some Baby Bowser, Baby Wario, and Baby WiFi I see in Yoshi's Island 2?

-----

28) Development costs a quarter to half less for Wii than compared to PS3/360.

-----

29) $149 PSP for the holidays? Here's hoping.

-----

30) So while an editor for the Official US PlayStation Magazine has said she's buying an XBox 360 come November, I tend to agree with BlazeHedgehog's analysis of the situation.

-----

31) Wow, it seems that R.O.B. can do anything!

-----

32) This had me worried there for a second.

-----

33) Nice Zelda 20th shirt, but costly.

-----

34) Dead Rising creator Keiji Inafune makes US mall appearance.

Oh, and he did something called Mega... Man? Is that right?

-----

35) What makes a fanboy tick?

While I am devoted, I don't believe I am fanatical, for the record.

-----

36) Top 15 B&W Game Boy Games, from the OLD school of gaming, yo.

...lack of Mario or Mega Man on the list sucks, though. But, I guess they're givens.

-----

37) Talk of animated Castlevania series returns.

-----

38) I'll admit it. I couldn't watch it all.

-----

39) If platforming dies, we all lose.

-----

40) Uh-oh... the jig is up!

-----

41) Hmm, I'm glad I have small hands.

-----

42) Anything.

-----

43) Guess it was only a matter of time...

-----

44) Wow, I've heard of not jumping on the bandwagon for developing for a new console, but... wow.

-----

45) Nintendo's first-party edge.

-----

46) Cool, the first ep of GamePro TV. I wonder how it's held up...

-----

47) This would be a cool t-shirt.

-----

48) ...Freedom to Sonic?

Why am I reminded of those Simpsons-style bits where they release an animal back into the wild, just to be eaten moments later?

-----

49) Why gaming's business model does not work.

"Our revenue model is based on one shot at retail - we have no back-end revenue streams like a movie might in terms of DVD [or] TV."

If only there were some places people could gather to play a video game, BEFORE it becomes available on a home console. Maybe for a couple of quarters a try, one could get a limited version of the experience, like a couple of lives or something. Maybe some games in this theoretical model could even allow further deposits for continued play.

And there could be multiple units hooked together in some cases for some grand, online-esque multiplayer action.

And when enough hype is built and the game is no longer making money in the arc--er, theoretical gaming place, they could move the reputed games to the home market where they can add new features, clean up glitches, and make more money.

-----

50) Oh wow, that monkey is screwed.

-----

51) Yep. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay stranger.

-----

52) I've mentioned this before, and nothing has changed. I still want one.

-----

53) ...hoo-boy.

-----

54) Interesting ad for Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks.

-----

55) IRL Excitebike?

I have to admit, that was pretty awesome.

-----

56) Newsweek takes a look at the state of Japan's arcades, and compares them to our own homegrown decline.

-----

57) This Mario fan-toon is awesome, and made in full CGI.

What REALLY threw me is that the guy who made it is from Wingate University... my old hometown!

...and Kotaku needs to learn to distinguish their Princesses.

-----

58) GameCube games that never were.

-----

59) Nice piece of Samus fan art.

-----

60) Mario returns to Happy Meals? Sold!

-----

61) PS4 won't play discs?

Not exactly something I'd be saying at the moment, y'know?

-----

62) Nice NES case mod.

-----

63) Harry Potter and the Curse of Pubertus. Funny.

-----

64) Mmmm, Nintendo candies...

-----

65) I want this belt. So I can put my DS case on it.

-----

...and that's all for now. I need a break. More later.

OLD'ED!! Just kidding. I think I mostly rely on you for my regular dose of news.

Hooray Wii! $60 a game is really too much. I mean, I guess we did pay more in the older days... but it'll definitely be welcome to see games (even if only 1st party games) for no more than $50. I wonder, will that drive the price of GameCube games down a little?

And wow, 27 games at launch? Now, I love Nintendo, but even I had trouble really believing in that figure... Though looking at the list of launch titles, it seems plausible. As for me... Well, Zelda is a given. I'd also be interested in the Marvel game (wasn't that supposed to be like the X-Men Legends games?), Rayman, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (am I crazy for not totally giving up on the idea behind Crystal Chronicles yet? Yeah, I think so), and maybe Elebits. Plus yeah, Excitetruck should be cool, and DBZ: Budokai games were pretty decent from what I've heard.

... Man, too many interesting games...

Hmm, the DVD box art for the SMB Super Show doesn't look too bad. Stays true to the look of the show at least, I think.

And dude. "PLAYSTATION 3"? Are they freaking serious? Is Sony REALLY out to win the "most obnoxious" award or what? It reminds me of when Adobe released a statement that "Photoshop" is not a verb. Ha ha... Yeah, like anyone'll care. Go sit in the corner with Band-Aid and Jell-O. Anyway, I wonder if people will start calling the system the "playstation 3" just to piss Sony off... But then you'd be acting just as stupid as they are...

Hm, that is one cool thing about Happy Meals... the bottom of the boxes DO tell you what the next Happy Meal toys are gonna be...

And dude... I need to show you more Robot Chicken. It seems you're deprived!! Actually, pretty much anyone in our generation needs to see Robot Chicken. You know Seth Green is right around our age? Yeah... But anyway, it seems like a lot of the show is already on YouTube anyhow.

Idiots. That's the kind of "generic" publicity people kill for.

You don't drink a pop in some places, you drink a Coke.

You don't apply a bandage, you use a Band-Aid.

Once upon a time, you weren't playing video games, you were playing Nintendo.

Anyway, it's not really unique to them. If memory serves, something came up awhile back with the GameCube, in fact, where Nintendo said it was "GAMECUBE."

As for Robot Chicken, I think I heard we might finally be getting it here, I need to investigate. But some of the staff are from Toyfare, which I read monthly, so...

Well, I know the first season of Robot Chicken has been on DVD for a few months now... Unless they kept that from going overseas too! And since each episode is so short, just 10 minutes, a whole season isn't all that long. The box set runs between $20 and $30 down here... It's gone right up there with Family Guy as my DVDs that get the most repeat viewings.

on Bomberman Zero: It looks pretty cool, but the gameplay seems too similar to the rest of the series. That would make single player worthless and multiplayer really fun, but the graphics seem kind of distracting for multiplayer. I'd probably rather have a classic Bomberman up on Xbox Live Arcade. I didn't read on if it's really going to happen or not, though. hmm, Saturn Bomberman, that reminds me of a Saturn multiplayer game I played called Death Tank that you unlocked by getting Duke Nukem 3D and Quake for Saturn. I wonder if that's on Xbox Live Arcade or if it ever will be. Or heck, I wonder if Death Tank is playable online /anywhere/.

on Platforming article: MAN this thing goes on and on. It only really starts at page 30. (the 2nd to last page..)

http://gamasutra.com/features/20060804/boutros_30.shtml

It makes some valid points there. Gaming has slowed down too much, we need more pick-up-and-play games, and I mean literally pick up and play. And there has to be better presentation and more streamlined presentation. And the gameplay has to be fun again instead of pointless fetch-quests and task based missions that feel more like chores. WHAT HAPPENED to happily traversing a level from point A to point B and doing whatever you want in between?

And honestly character designs like Crash and Jak and others, they tick me off, I find them so .. well, smug and mainstream.

on DS Lite size problem: OUCH! Better stay away from the Lite.

Damn handheld designs and damn everyone developing for these systems as if they were consoles.

42) (Wii controller problem) yea, that's the truth. Watcha gonna do. Just goes to show how Wii is not a normal game system. But it's consistent with Nintendo's image ambition. Wii is supposed to be a 'get up and WII, yaay!' thing and not a 'sit back and Wii' thing. Allowing people to relax would perpetuate the image Nintendo hated of a child playing alone in a dark room. Remember that discussion?

on SNK not developing for PS3 (44) -- It's SNK, so who cares? SNK develops 2D games for a purely niche market. It's a surprise they'd develop for PS3 at all. This is not news worthy.

on Sonic VA protest (48) -- omg, I saw this being discussed on the Sega board. Some people are obsessed with Sonic's voice actor and can't stand the new actor which was taken in from 4Kids american VA's for Sonic X. Honestly the voice is hardly bad and you can just barely tell the difference from the old one anyway. Anyway, I'm outraged that they propose boycotting Sonic Next, I don't care what the reason is. That's just GAY.

on gaming business model (49) -- good point LBD

More "point of interest," really. I find it interesting that they actually nailed down a time several years from now instead of not saying anything at all...

48) Yeah, pretty crazy. I agree with the notion that SEGA did wrong by them, but this... just seems wrong somehow.

49) Thanks :)
