Just finished watching Rockman.EXE Axess episode 7: Electric Flower Garden with Red(which we were fortunate enough to have downloaded before our connection took a nosedive; for those keeping track, it's about a 10th of what it's supposed to be, according to the guy from Bell-Sympatico who called yesterday).

Anyway, THIS is what I think Axess should be. It was a fun ep that seemed to reach back more to what the original series was like, while keeping the music and effects of the new series. PLUS the return of Hinoken with brief appearances by the other World Three Navis.

But my favorite part? No Cross Fusion. I'm sorry, but I think that idea has essentially thrown away half of what Rockman.EXE was about, dragged the rest through the mud, and if I'm not mistaken, made it pull in lower ratings than the preceding series(or so I heard).

Cross Fusion is a neat idea, and I don't totally hate it. In fact, I want to do a pic of Celeste in a Cross Fusion Nytetrayn.EXE outfit(though not with any story purpose). But I think it should have been reserved as more of a story arc, rather than the basis of the new series. To me, it's almost like if they made a series based on the baseball ep from the first series, or even if it was about nothing but the N1 Grand Prix(which I guess NT Warrior serves as an example of, thanks to the dubbers).

Frankly, I refer to the Cross Fusion part of eps as the "Megazord sequence," because that's what it reminds me of SO much: Enemy is beaten the traditional way, then the head villain says "Make my monster GROW!" and sends down his little villain-enhancement things to create the virtual field(though oddly, they seem to come out of nowhere half the time), and Netto and Rockman go through their transformation sequence so they can fight the new repowered monster.

Now, I love Power Rangers and Sentai as much as anyone, and even more in many cases, but that doesn't mean I want it here. If they REALLY have to, make another damn Rockman series where they are some sort of Sentai. Give them mecha. I'll watch. Just don't do it to a series that has NOTHING to do with such things to start with.

I dunno, having only gotten to the ice segment of BN2 and seen through ep 7 of Axess, maybe I'm speaking out of ignorance of something that happens in the games that the anime is actually doing some sort of job of reflecting. But I'm sure some jackass would have spoiled it for me by now, and I remember discussing Cross Fusion with people before the series started, being told that this stuff wasn't in the games. So...

Another thing that bugs me. Cross Fusion seems to almost oust Rockman from the team somehow. Just look at the final shot of the opening. It's Netto and... Netto. Cross Fusion Netto, yeah, but still, it's more like 75% Netto, 25% Rockman if you want to break it down mathematically.

While it's less an issue for me, something Shademan said sort of bothers me. Maybe it's a translation thing, but I sort of doubt it. I forget the exact phrase, but when talking about revenge, he made it sound like he and the others were from neither the cyber world nor the real world. "When evil Space Aliens attack, it's the Power Rangers to the rescue!" is the vibe I'm getting, though I seem to recall some similar oddness from Planetman in the original series. Foreshadowing, I guess.

Other favorite parts: Netto laughing his ass off at Enzan's commercial. I think I did the same thing, too. Also, seeing Fireman and Fireman Jr. was pretty cool, though I expected more of an actual fusion like Rockman and Roll had.

Anyhow, it's a great ep, and one I truly recommend for anyone who liked the first series, but is sort of turned-off by all this Mighty Morphin' nonsense.

Episode 7 was awsome, it's still one of my favourites after watching 21 of these. Plantman's voice actor was supurb, and see the return of Fireman wa sa wish come true (I couldn't stand Heatman >.<;).

The Cross Fusion aspect is overused in the first of the series, but it does slow down, and they begin focusing on the Soul Unisons instead. Even then, I feel like the Soul Unisons belittle Rockman and his abilities. But ah well, it's all a marketing issue I guess...

Personally, I kinda liked Heatman. Enough that I sort of wish that the two were separate entities like I hear they are in the games. But seeing Fireman back was great, and somehow, when he was teaming with Rockman, even kneeling protectively over him, I couldn't help but smile. Same for seeing Hinoken and Netto getting along as they did. Just sorta warms my heart, somehow. Rockman.EXE/Axess may be a bit odd at times, maybe not carrying some aspects of the game as well as it could, but it seems to do moments like that very, VERY well. I really like the World Three, especially thanks to the anime. Frankly, my least-favorite member(ex-member?) is Wily, ironically.

And I'm glad to hear they lay off the Cross Fusion later. As for Soul Unison, I sort of agree with you. But to me, it's just the new Style Changes, really, though it's criminal that we didn't get the Saito or Shadow styles in the anime. For shame. For shame...

Gotta agree, Cross Fusion is a bit... boring. I liked it better when it was Full Syncro in BN3, but you haven't gotten up to that yet. Even so, Episode 7 is one of the best of the series, along with 9 and 20.

I came up with something similar to the Soul Unison thing a long time ago, but I didn't know it. At the time I was like: I just like Forte EXE's outfit.

Yes Rock, Netto, Enzan, and Blues have more screen time than any one else now lately. I mean whatever happened to Masa? Heck whatever happened to Netto hanging out with everyone else?
