lbd_nytetrayn: Star Force Dragonzord Power! (Default)

Y'know, I'm a big fan of Sonic, perhaps even more than I realize. I have almost every issue of his comic book, including various sub-series, spin-offs, specials, etc. I have the original anime, and some tapes of stuff. Seen both of the original cartoons, though I don't think Sonic Underground was shown in my area back in NC. Still want to see that though, even if just for Knuckles.

Got a Genesis years ago so I could play Sonic and the Garfield game, and besides some Phantasy Star I picked up cheap, the only Genesis games I own are Garfield, Sonic 2, 3, and S&K. Only Sega CD game I ever REALLY gave a damn about? Sewer Shark... right. ;P Sonic CD, of course. It's a crime it's not been re-released on some other compilation.

Got a Dreamcast when they stopped making them, too. Only games I have for them are Sonic Adventure and Sonic Shuffle. Like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, both came with the system.

I have both of the old Sonic and Tails plushes. And the Sonic 3 Happy Meal toys. And a big figure of the new Sonic which Red got for me back when we first met... or maybe it was our second meeting. It was awhile ago, though. And it's standing on the shelf overlooking the computer right now.

And yet, strangely, when it comes to naming stuff I like, somehow Sonic is always overlooked. And I don't know why. Well, hopefully that will change.

I've seen Sonic X, and it is definitely one of my favorite anime of all time, only 3 eps in. In fact, and I never thought I'd say this, I like it better than the Rockman EXE anime. Not discrediting EXE at all, but something about Sonic just grabs me. The high-quality animation, for starters. And it seems to have a bit more continuity to it, perhaps thanks to the revisiting of the end of the last show before the title cards, which I should add seem to differ each episode.

The Engrish throughout is good, too. The opening and closing songs are good, and I enjoy the credits sequence as well, which fits in a neat little reminder that kids shouldn't watch anime in the dark and close to the TV, something Sonic does through the credits until someone flips on the lights, drops him on the couch, and points to a sign on the wall which shows the reminder, while Sonic nervously grins.

Another bonus over Rockman EXE? This dub is coming to Fox, which means I can see it. While Scarab is covering NT Warrior, maybe I'll start covering Sonic X...

On a side note, I'm hoping to find a very cheap copy of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the GameCube. I liked how Sonic Adventure was done, so I don't think using all the different characters will bother me at all. My biggest issue was Big the Cat's Super Sucky Fishing Extravaganzas, which just tore down the whole first game for me, denying me Super Sonic. No such issues so far as I can tell in SA2. Plus, 2-player modes, so Red and I can both enjoy.

And Sonic Heroes looks neat. Sonic needs to show up in SSBM2(or SSB3, whatever). And don't say it'll never happen. Hell has frozen over so many times in the past several years, between gaming and wrestling, that I'll believe(well, consider at least) anything you tell me.

Btw, if anyone knows any good Sonic pages, lemme know, huh? I might decide to branch out...

My first taste of fanfiction back in like, '96 was Sonic. That, and "The Zero Chronicles". Based on the SatAM stuff. It was good, and I have much of it printed out. It was by some circle of authors who did short stories. In fact, I have a sheet with a list of the fics/authors on it. Apparently the guy who ran the page was a rotor@primenet.com, and the fic authors, who seemed to go by their real names back then, were Thaddeus Boyd, Pat Carson, Holly-B Kraft, Lindsay Cibos, Joseph DeLaCroix, Dan Drazen, Eric Goodwin, Robert Haynie, Simon Howes, Ryan Huber, David Pistone, Richard Ray Roberts, Michael Szal, Don Weatherwax, Shawn Wolski, and HOLY SWEET JESUS, I didn't know David Gonterman was one of them!!!

This has taken a very interesting turn. Lemme see here, which ones did he write... apparently, only one at the time, "Blood and Metal", with a very predictable synopsis, from what I know of the fellow:

"King Acorn, through the curiousities of the Void, makes his way to Earth(red flag!) where he recruits(two red flags!) a young human to go through the Void the Mobius to deliver a message to Sally and assist the Freedom Fighters.(Comes complete with graphics...use a graph ical browser such as Netscape to view pictures)"

Sadly, it was not of the "Alternate Universes" section, either. At any rate, despite a higher-than-expected level of Gontermania, I'm still curious as to what else these folks might have written and if they're still around. I've looked to little avail, so if you have any tips, lemme know? K? Good.

I'm probably going to do more Sonic art once I'm able to do pictures again. I may even do a Sonic-fied Nytetrayn... figure that one out later. The Dragon Knights as a small team of Freedom Fighters? Maybe... but I doubt it. Stuff like that, I usually like to RP it to get a feel for the stuff, but no one is interested, so I might do some sketches and that's it.

Can't wait til I have a job... I have many Sonic comics, and SA2B, to catch up on. At least I have Sonic X to tide me over in the meantime...

Edit: I decided to try another search for those authors. Strangely enough, it worked this time. Found several of them already: Sonic Fan Fiction Archives. Maybe I'll go back to reading some of this stuff someday... maybe. Prolly after I get a printer.

You're trying to get my attention :P

Ever read any of those weird 'adult' sonic fanfictions? they were a hoot.

Hmm...

Define "adult". I've seen some with some blood, maybe some cursing, little else.

Well, if you had some titles or synopsis, I might be able to say. I don't remember any sex, but I do remember a couple with a neat SatAM version of Knuckles... "This Island Floating" and "Awakenings" by Joseph DeLaCroix.

Actually, this circle is what sort of inspired my hasn't-happened-yet page idea where people work with one another and their characters to make a more functional fanfic world. Btw, what do you think of Bookshire Draftwood, Commander Packbell, and Sandra Nightweaver? ;P

There was also another weird AU one... "Blue Flames", which crossed over with MegaMan X. Vile reborn as "The Lawnmower King"? Hoo-kaaaaay...

Heh, I was printing and reading this stuff off of a high school internet connection back in '96. MAN, was the net slow then...

Of the sonic comic too. I love the thng but i stopped collecting. I even had one signed but my halfling brother found it his right to rip off the cover (which i of course still saved) and i found it in my right to beat the living SHIT outta him ^_^

We all can't wait till you have a job, I'm sure Draco-dono is at the top of that "waiting" list too. ^_^ but we know you're going for the goal (Waving fans).

I met Ken Penders at the Heroes Convention a few years ago... talked with him a bit, debating continuity issues and stuff being different from the games... I think it was after that when they started "aligning" the two universes more. Coincidece? Could be... but then again...

Also got his autograph. :) I really wish they'd do a series of trade paperbacks already, though. Take the specials, fit them into their chronological places, and maybe Knuckles, too. Since there's only one series now, and I imagine Sonic X might bring in new fans, it's not a bad idea. A website would be good, too...

Lucky I like you or I'd be cursing your luck...

but you know, I'm glad. i remember the kuckles series. To be honesti stope buytig it after numbers....uh..I think 15 or so and even then i was missing a few. But what ever happened to Laura-lee or whatever her name was alongwith Knuckles mother? ....just too many mini series and all that. But have you noticed the similarities of all these fighting/adventure games? there's always a blue and there's always a red. One nicer than the other and they're always friends (unless it's Guilty Gear we're talking about)in some way.... i think it's a plot.

Of course, what is this Sonic X suppose to be all aboot? I mean, i don't keep up with Sonic anymore and I played only the old games (i miss them. I'm stealing my GF's second Genesis).

Wow, I'm currently re-reading through my Sonic comics(X has gotten me on a serious Sonic high). Can't remember who Laura-le was(I thought that was Knuckles' mother?), but his mother I believe got married again, last I saw. Then again, last I saw... well, I'm not sure what happened to the Floating Island, so I'll have to get back to you when I've caught up.

Sonic X: First episode, Sonic is making a run on Robotnik's base. The Eggman has Cream and her pet Chao, Cheese, held captive, and is about to activate some sort of machine, something to do with Chaos Control I believe, with the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic tricks one of Buttnik's bots into shooting the machine, and it does something weird, emitting this sort of ballooning energy wave that engulfs everyone present or nearby-- Sonic, Eggman, Cream, Cheese, Tails... basically, everyone from SAdventure 2 and SAdvance 2, save for Shadow. He's seen in the opening, though, so don't worry. Anyways, Sonic wakes up and is dodging these lights, and finds himself in a city intersection, wondering where he is, and it sort of goes from there, with Sonic on Earth(in what seems more like America, no less), and trying to find his friends and fending off Robotnik. It's actually really cool, and the humans aren't annoying, I find. I really like the S-Team...

When Fox Box gets it, I hope they can keep as much as possible... I think the odds might be good, because I think that it might have been a sort of joint production for both countries, like TransFormers: Armada. Prolly why the kid's name is Chris, his grandfather is(apparently) named Chuck, and the S-Team leader's name being Sam. Signs are in English most of the time, too, that I've seen. I really hope they'll keep the opening and closing animations, and the music during the show(somehow keeping the opening music, even without the J-lyrics, would be cool, too).

I think it's the commercial's eyecatchers give you bio "cards" for each character, too... usually the ones featured in that episode. They ought to keep those.

Anyways, I'm loving it. Totally.

I have a whole Gonterman folder on my laptop, including Blood and Metal. I thought you knew that. There are many different versions of BAM though, and I only got one.

If that Rotor is the same Rotor who ripped off Zero Tolerance, fuck him.

If you want, I could reccommend some good DC games for ya... some of 'em might be ultra-rare, but so worth the effort. :)

I had that, it was a lot of fun. I also enjoyed Tech Romancer and Psychic Force 2012.
