To those who mocked the notion of a space elevator in Mega Man X8 as being utterly rediculous, I would like to turn your attention to this and this. Particularly the second one, as you might then be useful.

Also, for those who feel the notion of Reploids, or basically computers having DNA is absurd...

I gotta admit, the idea of a space elevator sounded strange to me at first. But wasn't it proposed by some great scientific mind, like Jules Verne? When I found that out I thought, "Well, it still sounds weird, but I guess anything's possible."

Wow...O_O

This is so crazy, it actually makes sense. Oh well. It was bound to happen anyway.

I haven't heard anything about that space elevator since high school!

Computers having DNA isn't strange at all. Take mine for instance... *taps his head* It might not be the best, but it does a great job.

Decades ago, Clarke had the idea for those too. ;P

I wasn't mocking the concept of a space elevator. I was laughing at the fact that it apparently went all the way to the moon.

..Did it go all the way to the moon?

Nope. Not even close.

Looks like I was wrong about that, then.

Yeah.. it actually stopped in the lower atmosphere, from which point it was apparently within teleportation (or some mode of transportation) range of a gate way satellite, which could be used to get to the moon.

...UPPER atmosphere, that is. And actually, I think I've got the wrong word. BUt you know what I mean. The area outside the ozone that's still got some air , just not thick enough so's you'd notice..

Honestly, this really isn't new news. The concept of a space elevator has been around for a long time, it's just that we're finally getting close to having the materials to actually build the most important part: the "shaft" or ribbon. I think the theory was first proposed in the 60's or the 70's, but the forces that would be imposed on the "shaft" were too great for the materials of the day. While Max is right, the idea of it stretching to the moon is laughable, the concept is sound and has been around for a long time.

As for the DNA computer, I first heard about the concept and the design a couple years back. It's still in an early stage, though, but a combination of traditional silicon or computers combined with DNA matrices would be extremely powerful, and might lead to the development of true AI. I don't know that it would work or be used in the capacity that MMX proposes it would be, but it would at least play some kind of role.

Well aware of that, this is for those who aren't, with the benefit of it being rather recent in regards to the expo and the "give us your best shot" bit.

Boy, and wasn't I saying this the whole time? ^_-

I'll admit, I have been a bit critical of the idea of Reploids having DNA, at least in the same sense that humans do, but the way the article explain it really seems logical. That's quite an amazing step.
