Oy, what a night.

Found out that starting Thursday night, we are no longer allowed outside during our shift thanks to a new mandate from the head office, and the perimeter alarm will be set. So no smoking breaks for my manager and some coworkers. Me, I'm not big on it either. 9 hours stuck inside? Some suspect claustrophobia, I dunno. How does one check for something like that? Doesn't bug me so much if the option to leave is there, but I don't know that I've been subject to that long a period where you simply CAN'T leave.

On the bright side, I no longer will have to clock out for breaks/lunches, and now get paid for the latter.

Really? They said that it's done all the time in the States, something about it happening for quite some time there and that's why they're doing it here now, since they found out they can.

I can understand that there is a security risk involved in letting people outside at certain times of the night, but they really aren't allowed to lock you in somewhere. Its just not a good idea.

I don't think it's worth it. I work at a grocery store, and I don't think it's worth the handful of nickels to stay inside during the break, or breaks if your lucky enough to be part of one of the very rare honest businesses.
