Hahaa. Y'know, it's really not uncommon to do that. When I worked at McDonalds I had to do it. When I worked at JoAnn's I had to do it. Part of business in America I guess.
The only thing I've had pushed on me at EB is the "EB Edge" card, which grants a discount on used games. I buy so many used games from EB that, really, it's worth it, and I don't mind.
Working in any form of retail, you very quickly understand that there are things you "have to do." I guess that's why it doesn't bug me as much.
Same here, though the one in my link feels a bit like overkill. Asking two, three times per visitor, plus the "EB Story," whatever that is? My god...
The other stuff they've got to say is crazy, too. Penny Arcade used to have actual scans or transcripts of stuff EB employees are required to say, but can't seem to find it now. Did inspire one strip, however.
Personally, I'm sick of the "Protection Plan" spiel nearly every electronics store tries to foist on you. Particularly when you're waiting in line and the clerk gives the spiel to the person in front of you, who is clueless about electronics and can't make up their mind. When I get up there, I practically want to sell the salesperson to save their breath, but I know they are just following orders. Really. I don't need a protection plan on the CD I just bought.
Why not just have them say, "Welcome to EB Games, would you like to blindly hand me your money now?"
With GameStop and EB Games set to merge, I'm very pessimistic about the future of game shopping. GameStop, EBX, Software Etc. and Funcoland will all just be one big mondo store (not like I could ever tell them apart to begin with). With only a few other choices, like Best Buy (kinda bleh), we really need more competition in the market...
