Oct. 6th, 2005 03:34 pmDon't really have time to read through all of this, so I'm throwing the question out there to anyone who can answer:
I thought the Nintendo DS had built-in WiFi? Is this required for online gaming, or only in certain instances?

The DS is a wireless device. But wireless devices need something else that's WIRELESS to connect to. If I understand correctly, this is going to be some manner of Nintendo branded Wireless access point, and will be beneficial only for people who don't have wireless networks in their homes already and thus do not have a wireless access point.

Date: 2005-10-06 07:59 pm (UTC)If you have a wired connection at home, it's not like you can make the DS go from wireless to wired, so you need something like this. And if I'm not mistaken, isn't the Revolution supposed to be wireless-only as well?

Date: 2005-10-07 12:47 am (UTC)It's interesting that Nintendo plans to release something like this. It'll only be a matter of time before it's hacked and used to mess with the DS's firmware. We might very well be seeing a DS mod community similar to to the one that exists around the PSP in the very near future.
