Eight years ago today, Gunpei Yokoi was struck by a car in Japan and was killed. He was the man behind many great ideas in gaming, such as Metroid, Kid Icarus, the Gameboy Pocket, and, to a lesser extent, the Virtual Boy. I consider him to be even greater a man than Miyamoto, for he also created one of the things used in almost every major gaming system since the NES: The D-Pad. I choose to remember his image by dusting off my old Virtual Boy and playing Wario Land once again, one of the most amazing platformers I've ever played.

For those who never really knew who he was, know that he was a great man and it was a terrible tragedy for him to be killed so early in the modern era of gaming. I imagine if he was alive today, he'd be right next to Miyamoto and Iwata in introducing the Revolution to the public.

Really? That's a sad story... Yeah, it's a shame he couldn't be here to unveil the Revolution. They'd be like the Triforce or something.

Uhm, he forgot to state that he even developed the original GameBoy.

Anyway, (still) rest in peace my good man, for giving me tons of great hours of gameplay with the GB when I was young.... I think I need to get Wario Land VB now!

I forgot a lot of things, yeah. I didn't even remember on my own, there was a G&T topic on it in the Penny Arcade forums which I found while browsing online at school. I felt bad because I remember how sad I was when I first read that he had died; I remember even how I got the news: someone wrote to Nintendo Power and it was in the Player's Pulse section.

And yeah, Wario Land VB rules all. It's almost worth paying the high price for a VB nowadays just to play it!
