Sep. 29th, 2005 10:49 amJust reading anecdotes(starts on page 7) of the people who met with Miyamoto, or tried.
It's something else. Sort of emotional, in a way.
When you think about it, one really has to wonder just how many lives, directly or indirectly, this man has touched.
It was essentially thanks in large part to him that video games were dragged out of the Crash back in the 80s. Which lead on to where we are today.
In the interim, how many people have been inspired by these games? How many people have found careers? Taken up writing, or been inspired to art or music?
I hope I get the chance to meet him someday. I think it could be argued that, in some small way, he's perhaps made a lot of our lives a little bit better by way of sharing his imagination.
Oh, btw, remember the PSP guy?

"Ahh...PSP wa....No no no no no." Then his translator followed with a "he only sign Nintendo products, thanks."
I'm not sure what I'd want to get signed. I think my copy of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt would be good, though.
Oh, and kudos to Nintendo for springing for a ton of pizzas and water for those waiting in line. Classy.

Date: 2005-09-29 05:38 pm (UTC)But yeah, I was thinking about that the other day. Miyamoto, without a doubt, has created the world of gaming we know today. I guess if he didn't do it, somebody else might have... But with the games he's influenced, both directly and indirectly, he made a profound impact on my life. Most of the people I know today are through a web site based on a video game. I wouldn't be here in Maryland, and I wouldn't know any of you guys, most likely... I wish I could have conveyed that to him!

Date: 2005-09-29 05:59 pm (UTC)And... PBHTLKLPPTTTTTHZZZTTT. There's a picture of me there.

I'm the melonhead at the far bottom of the pic. It looks like I'm doing my Miyamoto impression ("*point* Mario-san!"). The kid wearing a black top with the shoulder-length hair is actually a dude, who kept trying to sound l33t, but overall wasn't too annoying. The most annoying kid was a rabid Nintendo fanboy who looked like a younger version of me (complete with ponytail) who would not shut up. The person wearing the green hoodie is the l33t kid's mother, who had a PSP. l33t kid had fixed it so it could run an NES emulator.
Somewhere near the middle of the pic is one of the blessed "blue shirts," the employees at Nintendo World. Bless their souls, they must have dealt with a lot of fanboys that day.

Date: 2005-09-29 08:43 pm (UTC)I'm not sure what I'd get signed myself... maybe my SNES. Sadly it's the only vintage machine I have that I've always had (my current NES isn't my first one, and God only knows how many Gameboys I've had). That or maybe my copy of Super Mario Bros/Dunk Hunt. I have to admit that most of my gaming stuff would be more appropriate to receive Keiji Inafune's signature instead.
