Sep. 21st, 2005 08:23 amPSP's Rockman Rockman and Irregular Hunter X are coming Stateside! Woo-freakin'-hoo!
Their names?
Mega Man: Powered Up and Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
Interview with Keiji Inafune and Tatsuya Kitabayashi is here, where they discuss more details about the game. Seems Kitabayashi of the recent X games is behind these new babies, while Inafune is heavily involved as well.
But this part gets me:
Inafune: Believe it or not, what you're seeing on the PSP is what I originally intended Mega Man to look like. But as I was making the game for the NES, there were limitations on the hardware and the graphics, so he ended up looking how he looked in those games. Now that I have hardware that has far fewer limitations as far as the graphics, I can finally show the true Mega Man that I wanted to show.
...
I dare say that I believe that the PlayStation if not the Super NES would have been quite capable of achieving the desired results insofar as Rockman's design.
I personally prefer how he came out.
I do love Kitabayashi's reaction when Inafune comes a-knockin' with two new bosses, though.
Ugh.
Will this change the story significantly, I wonder?

Date: 2005-09-21 04:21 pm (UTC)Of course, I have call bullshit on Inafune, in regards to that quote. If that's what he originally intended the character to look like, why do all of his pre-production sketches of Megaman depict the NES-proportioned character we all came to know?

Date: 2005-09-21 11:38 pm (UTC)Theoretically, he might've been working around the parameters? Still, I'm pretty sure I've seen the SD form achieved on the NES... wasn't there a port of Bonk at one point?
And if not that, then Super Mario Bros. 2.

Date: 2005-09-22 01:19 pm (UTC)As for the noses... wow, hadn't noticed. I guess Japan really DID like what Jazwares did.
As for MHX, I've no serious gripes yet, except that the polygon count seems a bit low.
