Wow. This coming from the country that used to be prolific with samurai and ninjs? Where murder was not only a common day event, but the act of it was continually refined?
Not that I'm saying theu're savage, but like the report says, it's assumed the parents would have proper judgement in what to get their kids. Not only that, but kids having the proper judgement not to mimic such behavior as well. As far as I know there are no existing issues pertaining to this in Japan.
Not that I'm defending GTA either. If anything I feel pity for Capcom being dragged into this since they carry the distribution license in Japan. I do condone that GTA is probably excessively violent, but I have doubts it would have bad effects on Japanese people.
Then again, Japan does have a tendency to adopt Western reasoning; viewing it as being more civilized.
Honestly, though, how is "If you're under 18, you can't buy GTA or other M rated games" different from "If you're under 18, you can't go watch 'Gangs or New York' or other R rated movies at the theatre"?
