From Penny Arcade's forums, another good point regarding Rockman Rockman:

This would be MUCH better served as a DS game. It's strange, Capcom takes the game that would benefit from good 3d abilities, Resident Evil, and puts it on the DS, then takes a platformer with an editor built in and puts it on the PSP. What type of Bizarro world is this?

It does make sense...

I think a chibi-MMZ remake would be funny.

Ciel: "ZERO, EVERYONE'S DYING."
Zero: "^_^"

Here's my money. I'm paying to see this happen.

Plus they pretty much handed idiots the Cutman battle if they've even see Gutsman. "Hey look. THIS HAS GUTSMANS ICON ON IT. TRY USING HIS POWER ON IT."

I hadn't noticed that. I wonder if that's actually the case, or just co-inky-dink?

"Is it just me, or does this chibi Megaman redesign look an awful lot like Mr. Driller?"

So did Capcom realize people are playing their nes classics on the PSP anyway, and came up with a way to capitalize on that?

That'd be interesting.

I don't even get what you people are saying about "not coming to the DS" or whatever. This is capcom. It is CAPCOM. It may be for the PSP now, but as time passes this game will be ported to the DS, XBox 360, Nintendo Gamecube, Sony PS4, Nintendo GBI, Nokia N-Gage 360, and then will appear a second time for both the GBI and PSP2 as unlockable content in another game. Just wait, man.

A voice of reason?

How awesome would it be if it were on DS with the new version on the bottom screen and the original on the top screen at the same time, both synced up.

Win!

On a related note, I wonder if "Rockman Rockman" would include the X1 remake as well... hence "Rockman Rockman."

And does anyone know if this is sprites or polygons? I've heard both said...

I'm pretty sure it would be polygons. I can't see them making an entirely new sprite set for this. Polygons are probably easier to do, and you get the benefits of squash-and-stretch.

You seem like a good person to ask this, what with working on games and all.

Do you think the DS could come close to this sort of look if they tried to make it for that system? Korcas says no-way, but I'm not THAT impressed by this that I think it's impossible, especially after seeing a few titles on DS. Nintendogs seems to do polygons well.

Nintendogs does it okay, a little over PS1 level, but making a polygonal game look like a sprite game is something neither the N64 nor the DS can be capable of.
Not to mention that the DS resolution/screen would make the game look pixellated, just like Castlevania DoS is suffering from.

If you look closely, you'll see that the environments themselves seem to be three-dimensional. Lines on the floor towards the edges bends toward the center. So, that's probably a decent amount of polygons for a DS to push around.

I would agree with Korcas. Even if the DS could push that many polygons, the end result wouldn't be anywhere near as clear because of the limited screen resolution of the DS. An example would be the rather ambitious new Kim Possible: Kimmunicator game. As you can see based on their screenshots, they are dealing with a fair number of polygons. But, as a whole, it's not a very sharp picture.

The game's fully polygonal, that's why the DS couldn't handle it the way it looks on the screenshots. Remember, DS3D graphics = N64 3D graphics.

Actually, it's a bit better than N64 graphics...

Not GameCube better, but still a bit more.

Finally Rock comes back with a new game, even if it is a remake of MM1, I'm sure they'll add some interesting extras. (Blues story mode? X_x Play as casual Rock?)

It should be for DS, they could just make the touch screen a weapon screen or something.

It sort of makes me want to get a PSP, especially with Legends remakes...

The custom level editor isn't enough?

As long as they let you edit the Guts Man stage ASAP, I'm happy.
Seriously it took me three hours to beat that stage....
