New Sonic Heroes opening(drag to your address bar).

Digin' it. Lovin' it. Must own it.

Non-playable Eggman(so far as I know) is still a strike against it. And the lack thusfar of Tornado 2 and Egg-Walker. Oh well, tis' just an opening...

Digging the Egg-mada, though.

Knuckles grinds! XD

Eggman just has a style all his own...

More images from the intro, and beyond, are right here. Just be careful treading past 50... that's where some of it gets a little spoilerish, it seems.

Oh, and the return of Mecha-Sonic... schweet. :D Pity Sonic doesn't still have his Soap Shoes(of which I want a pair)...

If this plays like SA2B did, and the story is as good...(cut scenes and music included), I'm going to have a total fucking joy-gasm.

Eggman as the badguy again is a good thing if you ask me ;P Plus, the Tornado and the Eggwalker were some of the more contrived parts of SA2.

I like seeing as many Egg-robots as possible, and I like seeing the Eggmobile variations (Eggmobile-Egg Hornet.. Egg Viper.. Egg Walker... Etc..). Having Robotnik as the badguy allows for this again.

As for gameplay. It's a given that it'll be tons different. This is actually a good thing, since the teams will share stages.. thus no more of the dead-horse emerald hunting (They were really stretching to fit that into SA2 =/) and perhaps we can count on some more varied level design and goals. The ability to switch from Sonic's speed, to Tails' flying to Knux's fighting power will also be a plus.

So. If the Sonic parts play as cool as the Sonic parts of SA2 I'll be happy. If the rest is nothing like the Knuckles our Rouge parts I'll be overjoyed. If we don't have to deal with clunky auto-targetting, all the better.

Oh yeah, your links don't work =/

Then again, I should probably say.. playing as Dr. Robotnik was more like a bonus in SA2. We SHOULD remember that he IS the bad guy, and we can't expect them to always have a way figured out to make playing him make.. sense. They had to invent G.U.N. just to have some villains to fight other than Robotnik.

Yeah, if Shadow and Rouge are going the Hero route, I guess that does sort of alienate Eggman. Pity. Still, it'd be a neat bonus... speaking of bonuses, I'd like a "make your own team" feature in there, like if you beat it with everyone.

Btw, the movie at least works... guess the bandwidth was exceeded for the pics or something. :(

As far as playability, I just hope Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails control like they do in the Adventure games. Ditto Shadow, though Rouge seems to be her team's flyer. Anyway, as long as it feels the same, that's my main concern.

...and incidently, I thought the other stuff in SA2 fit well. I could play an entire game of Knuckles' part...

Speaking of Knuckles and his music, it occured to me earlier... his music has ALWAYS been something like that. Check out his theme in Sonic 3, his first appearance...

I hope at the end, Team Sonic gets to return to their Super glory from S&K... man, imagine though if EVERYONE had a Super mode...

Indeed, but remember how quickly they changed his theme? Plus.. I wouldn't mind his rapping so much if it was of some quality. But "Give up the emeralds or--DIE! I don't love you!" is just a crime. They've also taken Knux for a very different turn than was apparent in StH3, if you will remember. There he seemed to be mostly a punk, but in S&K he turned out to actually be a somewhat slow-witted but thoughtful guardian. A rather moral and noble individual in fact, even if his temper gets the best of him. Thusly, his theme changed from the clapping (that was actually part of the mid-boss theme) to his own unique and more tribal and mystical theme. The StH3 mid-boss theme was the really goofy rappy one ;P Check it out on Planet Dreamcast.

And as for playing an entire game of Knux and Rouge style.. well, yeah. So could I. In fact. I DID. It was called Sonic: Adventure. It was this wonderful new game that came out with the Dreamcast....

Knux really handles FINE in SA2, yes. Tails was the only one that gave me problems ever. But The problem was, I'm sick and tired of contrived excuses to find 3 seperate things hidden randomly in the level. Free-roaming levels have limited appeal. I'd like to see Knux in a semi-linear level. Rouge at least had the decency for her missions to relate to the rest of the plot somehow. The master emerald being shattered was really an unnecessary part of the game overall.

And as for a make your own team thing.. yeah, that sounds good to me, but there are issues. One of my chief worries is that these teams will all actually act roughly the same, as in the individual character isn't balanced so much as the TEAM is balanced. This could create problems for a Sonic-Shadow-Espio team. Of course.. Espio and Amy's teams are entirely too goofy to act just like the Hero and Dark teams. But still... if they made all the characters essentially different (except Shadow and Sonic.. they have to be essentially the same.) then a "build your own team" feature'd just rule.

Oh yeah. I did watch the movie.

Yeah, I remember the quick change, but it was a more upbeat sort of island tune, still not quite what I'd expect for a "lone wolf guardian of the Master Emerald" that was mentioned the other night.

Ironically, if I recall correctly, Sonics 2, 3, and S&K, or at least the latter two, were originally planned as one game, but were broken up over time. So Knuckles I guess was about the same up to about the end, when he tries to fight off Robotnik. He just struck me more as the guy who knows the ins and outs and tricks and traps of the island throughout that whole adventure, though, more than just a punk.

And yeah, the midboss theme was pretty rappy too, but Knuckles' original theme was as well. Also, gotta love how Sega pitched him as more an ally, though he didn't prove to be one until much later. Definitely the ProtoMan of the Sonic series, IMO.

As for the Knuckles SA-style... I mean a legitimate ENTIRE game, not just a third or a sixth of a game. ;P

As for Tails: I mean his Chao Garden/SA1 handling. If he handled like the Tornado 2 in SH... dear lord.

Anyways, exploration seems more geared towards Knuckles' character. He's fast, but not the speedster Sonic is. Personally, I think they incorporated the concept well. As for the Master Emerald being shattered, the whole story somehow felt like there was something drawing all six to work together somehow. Maybe Omoe Chao has something to do with it(helping all the characters, good or bad, and even cheering Sonic and Shadow on in the final battle). But to me, it made perfect sense:

Shadow told Eggman to bring more Chaos Emeralds. So what does he do? He goes for the grand-daddy of them all, natch. It's what I'd do. So as Guardian of the Master Emerald, what does Knuckles do? He uses his SA1 experience to know he can track and reassemble the Master Emerald, and does what he has to so that Robotnik doesn't get away with the gem. And of course, in the end, Knuckles' Emerald is what saved the day.

From what I recall, the SA1 version seemed more forced... but I might just need to play that again.

As for the "make your own team" idea, I figure some restrictions would apply, chiefly that you'd have to mix one speed, one strength, and one flyer. My team? Shadow, Knuckles, and Cream & Cheese. Sonic, Rouge, and the new Eggbot seems like it'd be neat, too.

And isn't the intro cool? I love the Chaotix' part. I just wish Mighty were there...

As far as I know, only StH3 and S&K were supposed to be one game. I remeber seeing a screenshot where the Sonic 3 level select screen had been hacked into showing all of the level names from S&K. Which I think is highly possible, I mean they left the frigging Hidden Palace in Sonic 2, they just removed the textures for it... Sonic Team has a thing for just leving in "dead" parts of their work, it seems.

Not unheard of... ever heard of the "hidden worlds" of Metroid? ;P

Oh, it made perfect sense. I'm not denying that it made sense. But it wasn't necessary.

And Nyte. You completely missed the point of what I said. I don't want to do another "find three items" set of levels ever again. They killed it in SA1 and 2. They really did. The logical extension of not minding the way Knux controls but hating his SA2 game is that obviously I just don't want to do anymore emerald hunting.

And in SA1. The Master Emerald shattering was a central part of the plot. Where do you think CHAOS came from? No where near being forced.

Well, like I was trying to indicate, I didn't remember the SA1 part so well.

And you're missing what I'm saying. I LIKED the Knuckles/Rouge "find the items" levels. I wouldn't mind if they did a solo Knuckles/Rouge game with just that.
