Aug. 4th, 2005 09:34 amWhile I agree with
zeroxphoenix about his disdain over the game "Bully,", I don't really expect anyone who didn't already engage in these problems to really be pushed by it to start, no more than I would expect fans of Twisted Metal to strap hunting rifles to the hood of their car and go shooting around the parking lot of Wal-Mart.
But the politics of this... I'm sick of Rockstar. And I bet the bulk of players of this piece will likely be the same ones Gabe and Tycho spoke of once, the "mainstream" gamers who only play them now because they're cool and have helped inspire dreck like the Spike TV Video Game Awards, the jerks who'd sass and harass after we kept playing games when the NES expired.
I don't know where I'm going with this one, except to say this is probably more fuel the fire does not need.

We all went through that phase where we'd say and do controversial things just to piss people off, but for most of us that phase passed sometime near when we started shaving. Rockstar needs to grow up, and if they're going to make controversial games, please at least let it have a point other than "OMG CONTROVERSY!" Some non-sucky gameplay would help too.
