Spoilers, duh.
And a new mystery unfolds.
As I was travelling deep into the Undernet, looking for items and unlockable doors I had missed, I found something I didn't expect to see...
Bass.
In stone.
Actually, Heatman had mentioned something about this to me, but I never expected to actually see it... and to be frank, it really sort of creeped me out. Last I saw, he had been swallowed up by Alpha, and yet, here he is... but not moving or anything. Alpha was freaky enough, but seeing one of the most powerful NetNavis in existance in such a state just sort of creeped me out. Made me wonder what else might be down there...
...and unfortunately, I found out, thanks to ShadeMan Omega.
I barely managed to defeat Duo, remember. 1 HP left.
ShadeMan Omega not only LOOKS more evil, but he made Duo look like a cakewalk.
I don't remember where I was in the Undernet, or what I was doing when he ambushed me, and slaughtered me. But he just redefined the game. He just turned Battle Network into part of the survival horror genre, because moving through the Undernet now just got a LOT worse.
He's fast. VERY fast. I resisted using a Dark Chip on him, but I don't think even that would have helped. I was getting bad ones, anyway, like Recover 3000 and a MiniBomb, and some variant of Area Steal or something that I don't know what the effects are. Though theoretically, if I could cut off enough of his side of the board, he'd likely be more vulnerable.
But I'm not going back to find out anytime soon.
That fucker is crazy. Talk about departures from the Classic series versions of characters...
