...and while we're on the subject of bats and driving, bats is precisely what Dante is driving me lately.

For some reason, he just won't stop meowing.

Or at least, until you pick him up.

Which, after a few moments, he fights to get down...

...just to start meowing again.

I don't get it.

[livejournal.com profile] woekitten thinks maybe we ought to see about him staying at her parents' place, as there is far more room for him to move around, plus Mango is there for him to play with.

I dunno.

Crazy as he drives me lately, I still like having him around.

Advice?

And the first person to suggest something like killing or skinning him gets removed from my Friends list. ;P

Maybe he's in heat, or whatever? If so, the meowing could be craving a particular kind of attention, which he forgets about momentarily when you pick him up, only to promptly remember it and get pissed that your hand isn't a ladycat.

Or perhaps he's just moody. My cat does that from time to time (not nearly as frequently as yours does), and she usually stops after a night or so. If that's the case, give it a bit of time.

As for suggestions, if he doesn't get better in a few days, I'd say a vet visit might be in order. They tend to know a lot more about animals than the motley assortment of nerds and charlatans found on an average LiveJournal Friends list.

Well, we gave him the big snip awhile back... wouldn't that sort of affect the "in heat" syndrome?

As for the last part... point taken. But if anyone DOES know, it might help save us money we don't have right now...

Male cats don't go into heat anyway, so that point is moot.

Most likely, he's just craving attention. How much time do you two spend a day scratching him behind the ears and making him chase string or a laser pointer dot or something? I'll bet if you spend a bit more time doing that, he'll shut up.

Gave him some playtime earlier; it'd be easier if he didn't keep losing all his toys.

Been a little while, but not TOO long, I guess... if he keeps it up, we'll look into that.

He seems to be reacting well to that colored rope toy we received from Shepdog...

I don't think Dante is sick, cats are pretty good at hiding it when they don't feel 100%. It sounds to me like your cat is either the neediest cat I've ever heard, or he's got some warm weather crazies.

Here's a question, was he always an indoor cat?

Pretty much. He freaks out if we try and take him outside without being in his kitty carrier.

*laughs* I think Dante and Dustoff are pretty near the same age. Want to know what's awful? Dusty is going through this yelling (pick me up... no, I'm too much of a cat to be snuggled, okay, you can hold me now) phase too, and I'd say it was a phase. My other cats went through it too - outgrew it in a few months. Dusty doesn't want anything. He doesn't need anything. He's not sick. If you took their age(in people years) they're around sixteen and seem to going through the same stage we went through as teenagers. ;)

Now, that's not saying Dante's not sick, not at all; if you're concerned or think there's a serious problem, you should go and take him to a vet, absolutely. But I can say that Dusty was shrieking (for no reason) and the other cats and I were trying to sleep - after the ninth time we were woken up in a week, I ended up one night bringing a squirt bottle to bed.

Guess who was shocked when he yelled and got squirted, and guess who has been sleeping like a nice gentleman through the night now. ;) I think I heard the other cats cheering.

(And er... nope. Toms don't go into heat, sorry. They do, however, call (yowl) at the ladies if they aren't fixed. Since cats are light based breeders, they will chatter more during the spring and summer, though.)

I think.. he's just a needy animal. I have a cat like that, won't ever leave me alone, begs and pleads for my attention at odd hours of the night.. I can't explain why, but some cats are just obscenely codependant.

You might just have to keep him away from your room at night, find ways that he can have company very often.. things like that. And he might just get over it too. I mean. Regardless of the cat's reasons, [livejournal.com profile] shepdog's got good advice there XD;
