So I began MMZ3 again for the first time today. That is, on the actual Game Boy Advance SP itself.

It's still a bit awkward to adapt to. Partially because of the smaller screen, but also because after 3 SNES games, 3 PS games, and 2 PS2 games, dashing with a trigger button is awkward to me. I'm apparently in the minority for this to be any problem, though. Yay, lucky me. Is it any wonder I want a PS2 adaptation/remix of these games, though?

Instead of using the right trigger for it this time, however, I'm using the left, which seems to help a little. I'm still not dashing nearly as much as I used to. Makes my progression through the stages seem a bit less dramatic; I usually have to stop and think of just what I'm doing before I dash or dash-jump.

Still, I find it overall easier to control everything that's not left-right-up-down running to the other hand, with my right thumb.

Incidently, though, for the DS owners out there... is it possible to use the extra two buttons there for GBA SP shoulder button functions?

Why Nintendo thought making a portable SNES with a third of the buttons missing was a good idea is something I may never understand.

The only GBA option I've found on the DS that can be changed is which screen the game is displayed on. For controls, you're suck with the shoulder buttons, B, and A. And the positioning of the B and A buttons makes playing GBA games very awkward. I was trying to play MMBN2 on it Sunday night, and I kept either missing the A button, or trying to use Y and B like I would on an SNES.

So is it like this?

X
Y A
B

If so, the B-A thing is about like a regular GB/A, except a little more tilted, right?

Still, sucks for lack of customizing or GBA compatibility. I guess it's to reinforce that it's not the successor to GBA...

Crud, didn't come out right. Let's try it this way:

-X-
Y A
-B-

Yeah, that's more or less it. It would have been nice if Nintendo had put in an option, like in Super Mario All-Stars, to switch B/A to Y/B.

I get by with the double tap for dashing.

..I started using shoulder buttons for dashing in the PSX games. And I could never quite do it when it was the A button on the SNES...

I like using that button for more minor features, not something I do all the time.

But I AM a bit weird.

I dunno, I'm with Gelgs on this one. It took me some getting used to in the first Mega Man Zero, but once I found myself comfortable with using a shoulder button to dash, I found I liked it better than the old way. Since then I've always set a shoulder button to dash in an X game.

I'm managing ok in it now, but still, it's sort of like driving to me... one hand for steering, the other for everything else.

Before, I could dash, jump, or dash-jump as one function, one press of my finger in different positions. Even firing/slashing. Now it's got to be seperated into two functions well-timed(which most of the time it's not).
