Feb. 9th, 2005 02:34 amRunning my mouth a bit lately, but I've not gotten to post as much as I like, and I sort of like sharing thoughts, so hopefully someone will read something of interest.
But probably not, unless you like video games. Or hearing me bitch about Blockbuster. Or something.
Anyway, reading up on this Capcom Classics Collection(wouldn't it have been a hoot if Capcom were spelled with a "K"?), it's readily apparent that it seems that one game most people want, if not everyone who cares about this collection, is Bionic Commando.
Great memories, that game. It's strange that Capcom never once tried to follow up on it, and I have to look at the state of games today and wonder, is it too late for them to do so?
My fear is if they get BC on CCC, then they might see what they've got here, and try a 3-D version... and I just don't think BC can work in 3-D.
Well, maybe it CAN, but not like it does in 2-D. I imagine something like the Spider-man games with guns, if we're lucky. In fact, I sort of pray for that, out of fear that whatever else they try may be worse. Even CPS2/Inticreates didn't come close when they gave Zero the Chain-Rod in MMZero 2.
Still, the original is a really good game, and I'd love to see it and its arcade counterpart(that I played all of once) on this collection(and maybe the GB one enhanced in a MMAC-styled way for GBA).
Uncharacteristic of me, though, is that I hope they change a few things. Specifically, changing the name of the "Badds" to "Nazis" as it originally was, as well as the name of the mastermind behind the Albatross.
Of course, there are some things I hope they DON'T change, as well. "Get the heck out of here, you nerd" being one of them, as well as other zany quotes.
And the cussing. They took it from MM7, but I hope MMXC and CCC don't share the same fate.
And finally, what could perhaps be argued as the most brutal ending for a final foe in an NES game... I want that to stay, too(and I'm being deliberately vague, in case someone here wants the full experience the first time they play it on CCC, so please mind spoilers in your replies. Out of courtesy to others. ;) ).
Decided to look up some stuff on Bionic Commando at a fansite, interesting stuff. Seems a bit more than just names and a few potentially offensive graphics were changed, but actual game elements, too. Might be nice to see those restored in a "hard" mode...
Funny thing about this pic is, it looks like you're out to get a Nazi Samus Aran.

Date: 2005-02-09 07:24 am (UTC)I'll just be holding out for the X collection thank you. Wasn't it you who said there was word it's being developed by CoJ? That would make sense really, since CoJ never had formal X re-releases, other than PC titles and bargain price editions. But they never did anything like Complete Works for X, so it'd make sense that they'd be interested.

Date: 2005-02-09 07:32 am (UTC)In theory, yes. It was the head of Capcom Studio 1 that made the announcement of the collection, so that's all I really have to base that on. Why get one of your developers to announce someone else is making a compilation? Maybe there is some logic to the idea, but I don't see it. If it were Inafune, that's different, but...
And what you said about the X releases in Japan is also a part of why I think it may be the case.
