Something to get to the bottom of...
Jan. 20th, 2005 12:49 amThis one's a shout-out to the fellow Blockbuster employees on my Friends' List, of which I believe there are a few(lest I'm mistaken).
So, in Canada, we're starting the "No More Late Fees" thing that the US started on the 1st. Rent a movie/game, get a 7 day grace period after the due date, and after that, it's yours, minus the cost of the rental.
Apparently, this hasn't been much an issue in their testing grounds, stuff gets returned anyway.
But, there's a kink I'm sure I read about in the program.
See, if there's a coupon the customer presented for a free rental, then should they decide to keep it, they get the rental fee deduction anyway.
What I want to know is... does this count employee free rentals as well? I've heard it does, and I've heard it doesn't. Wondering if anyone in the US at a BBV knows for sure. Mainly because I'd like to score a few old GCN games that we don't have in the PRP section.

Date: 2005-01-20 08:41 pm (UTC)Employees are still subject to the rules before E.L.F. was instated and do not have the grace period of the buying chances that regular customers have (believe me, our copy of Criterion’s Seven Samurai would be gone if it did). Corporate's reason for this is that the free rentals you are given are in order for you to familiarize yourself with the product, and is not for your convenience but for the customer's. So, in other words, they’re doing you a favor that’s part of your job and they’re not gonna do you another one.
Now, this is how it is in our district, so things could be completely different in yours. We just had a whole set of new rules involving Gamerush and fellow Blockbuster stores, involving flipping of the product and employee trading (credit can only go on account, can’t trade at another store if you have a Gamerush in your own, 2 flips in a month earns you a write up, etc).
Also, if you don’t have the game in your PPG section, then you’re gonna be charged retail anyways, since you’re only charged the PPG price if you have the game in stock for PPG. So why not buy a new copy of the game with your discount?

As for new? Well, it isn't nearly as good a deal up here for the new games as it'd be for used. Guess time will tell on how some of this stuff works. If it took them longer to get it up here, maybe there will still be some quirks.

Date: 2005-01-22 02:13 am (UTC)See the thread on Allspark, too... think I'll drop in there. But I'm told we get the same deal as customers, pretty much, except for the possibility of free rentals being used towards purchase price. That includes keeping it out more.
...or should I say, "MORE."
