Was just reading about the PSP and the DS.

I hear that while both have had dead pixel issues, Nintendo has publicly apologized and said they'll gladly replace any DS's with said issue for free.

Whereas Sony has made no such apology, and also said they won't replace the dead pixeled systems.

I also heard a new one besides ejecting media: controls falling off.

This true? Any sources on this?

Looking your way, [livejournal.com profile] rorita. ;)

Edit: From the same thread:

>Unlike Sony, and unlike Microsoft, Nintendo makes money on each piece of hardware sold.

What I've noticed most about mindless nintendo fanboys, is that they constantly try to pass off outright lies as fact.

Sony makes a profit off their hardware. Microsoft breaks even. The gamecube sells at a profit. The DS sells at a loss.

Nintendo is no different from any other company. You do not need to lie about them. Miyamoto will not come to your hourse, put his mouth on your penis, and hum the zelda theme.

The bolded part made me laugh out loud.

4-chan discussions never are full of facts, at all. Normally what I've seen around is either peaceful PSP threads without anyone mentioning the DS and people staying factful, or people just bashing the PSP like there's no tomorrow, that seem to be the only two extremes I noticed, and they keep beating the dead horse of "the controlls fall off and the UMDs eject if you twist it, yadda yadda". Look at Lik Sang, for a GOOD review of the PSP, the person who wrote it is an obsessed Nintendo fanboy and a Sony hater, he still hasn't said anything negative about the system.

What the American videogame community needs these days is objective judgement, not mindless hating/loving.

Ok, that's cool... have a link? But I'm still just wondering if the quoted replacement statements hold any water?

No, sorry, I dunno where the link for the review is.

And well, for the replacements, I dunno, it's an iffy issue, especially in Japan, where the used games policy is pretty damn strict. But I'd think you can just bring a defect system back to the store you bought it in, instead of sending it to sony, there's always a way to get a new one without problems. ;)

Yeah, back when I was dating Chris, I hated the mindless Nintendo fanboy shit. "N64 rules! Ohhhh yah! Link is DA BOMB. How can you not like Link! I mean, Link is just, the best. *weird hand gesture*"

"N64's graphics where grany, especialy on RARE titles, where they used ENTIRELY too much of the colors Red, Yellow, and Orange. There was always horrid slowdown, especially during explosions, which where yet another excuse to use more orange, red, and yellow, and the games are entirely too fucking expensive."

And speaking of the twat, he just IMed me. T_T Blah. I hate fanboys of systems.. Why can't they just take an anime series and whore themselves to their favorite characters like we girls do? At least we can say sex appeal was involved. .. And sometimes, with how feverent these guys get over their companies, I'd think they wanna fuck their GameCubes/PS2s/XBoxs......

And that's just.. .. ew.

Interesting o.o
Just as a general thing I've noticed, Nintendo does seem to take care of their systems. Perhaps this is because they make consoles only, where Sony is basically all electronic things.
I think it was G4 who threw a contest on beating up a Ps2, Xbox, and gamecube. Gamecube won.
Maybe this is because Sony hasn't quite gotten in their heads that consoles are mainly bought for kids. Hence, they seem to be a little more sensative to breaking. (my sister had to buy a new PS2 because she dropped it one, and it broke beyond repair)
Nintendo's a little more fan friendly and puts a little more less-breakable stuff into their work.
I probably wouldn't buy either the PSP or the DS. I don't know enough about the PSP, and the DS...well... first, no games I like. Second, that thing is hard as hell to hold x_x;

As far as I know, despite the raging fanboyism, all of the reported "problems" with the PSP have been confirmed to be true on at least one unit at some point. I'd have to dig for it, but Gamespot confirmed the projectile-UMD thing, and I think they said their writers got a good laugh out of it.

The only issue I haven't seen confirmed is the dead pixel one. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Sony does refuse to replace units with this problem. After all, disc read errors don't exist on the PS2, do they?

my friend who imported a PSP, has the UMD launching problem (all of them do, its because the latching system is badly designed), the dead pixels, and the analog nub is getting really loose, we think its about ready to fall off at any moment.

whats really wonderful is that the square button on PSP is not even lined up anywhere near the sensor for it inside the unit. you have to jam on the right side of the button in order for it to register.

I've got two guys who come into our Gamerush regularly, and they both imported the PSP. Both had dead pixels. Sony, as of right now, is not replacing systems for dead-pixel-itis, but look for that to change with the US release, or else there'll be a lot of pissed off Sony Fan boys. Both looks like they are (literally) about to fall apart. They're nice and clean, but just holding the system, and tilting it back and forth you can see the buttons and pad move in their slots. That's not to say that Sony won't fix that by the time the PSP hits the US, but a whole lotta damage has been done already. A fellow Gamerush employee and I bought DS's. Mine was fine, hers had a dead pixel. Nintedo took down her Credit Card info and sent her a new one with a box to put the only one in (with postage) and shit it back to them. The Card info was in case she didn't return the first one. Which is the bigger graphics whore? The PSP. Simple. Which will I play the most? the DS.
