Let's see, more X8 thoughts. Because I have nothing else to write about, apparently.

1) I hate when video games, ANY video games, lecture you after the first time you do something. Examples of which are the following:

a) The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past - You're in Ganon's tower, find a treasure chest with bombs in it, and they share the lost secret of how to use and throw a bomb to you. Just like you'd been doing the past 12 or so levels.

b) You're nearing the final showdown with the Mother Brain in Super Metroid, and obtain a standard set of missiles. Which of course, they tell you how to use.

c) Pallette won't stop insulting my intelligence when I get back to the lab with a rare metal in X8. Yes, I figured that rare metals could be used to make new items. I doubt the laws of the universe changed that much since the last time I got one.

2) What the bloody fuck happened to Sigma?(I don't really think that's spoilerish)

3) Item descriptions still kinda suck in this. I think some of the directions are wrong, in other words. Like, if I'm not mistaken, one of Zero's commands for a special move is actually given to you backwards from what you have to do to perform it, not unlike the reversed Ground Scaravich move in X6.

Additionally, there is an item that says that when you receive damage, it drains your weapons energy rather than your life energy. Watching Red drive through Yeti's stage, however, I noticed that this was clearly not the case. Exception? Or rule?

On top of that, there's an item that gives you a quick recharge when you lose all your life energy. I'm not sure the way it works, though. Sometimes it seems to give it to the active character immediately, while other times the one who lost all his energy will teleport away, just to revive later. So I'm lost. And I've tried stalling to wait for #2 character to come back while this thing is equipped, just for him to no-show. So what gives?

4) Obtaining Rare Metals to be able to buy Full Life bottles is a crock. A Sub-tank, I can understand, but a full life bottle? There's just something retarded about that, especially since, in a story sense, aren't rare metals supposed to help them develop new technologies? Since when is full higher tech than half? Technically, shouldn't it be a single and a double? How can you have half if there is no full?

5) Red ponders if the stuff was written for us, with Japan getting a translation of our stuff. I would love that. Just imagine them squirming as they try to figure out what the hell happened.

6) I think Bulbrites are looking to be the new mascot for the X series. They're cute, everywhere, and really have no explanation. And the icon on the memory card, IIRC, is one of them. I've mixed feelings on them. Red loves them, and I think they blow up good. But it's weird, they're everywhere like the Nightmares were, but those at least had a reason to be there. Ditto for Servbots. And you can look at a Mettaur's helmet and figure it out. But what the hell is with these things?

Like I said, they're like Nightmares, but cuter. Ought to call them Daydreams or something. :P

7) It sounds like you have to get pretty much everything possible in Normal to unlock some stuff for Hard. Including Rare Metals. I hear one of them, you have to get all S-ranks in Optic Sunflower's stage. Frankly, this annoys me.

And I guess that's about all. Wishing strategy guides around here were more affordable, though. So that when I've got a question about this stuff, I can check it for info. And unlike GameFAQs, they have neat art and pictures.

8) The more I see this new Vile, the more I like him. The extra detail on his helmet is a big plus, IMO, with the crest and all. For some reason, the colors and his penchant for flight make me think "airborne ranger."

9) I really hope I'm able to see everything in this game without being on speedrunner level. That bothered me a lot about Sonic Adventure 2 Battle; to see/get a lot of the cool stuff, you had to have an absurd level of skill. And much of it was for multiplayer anyway, making it essentially not worth getting to me, but fortunately that's not a problem here.

10) How do I get the slagging Intermissions? The only one I have is the one for Noah's Park.

11) Know what might make the vehicle levels more fun? Besides not being there, or being reserved for Intermissions as I felt should be done, that is? Weapons upgrades. The sequence, Yeti's especially, is essentially a shooter; it's Space Invaders on crack, speed, and ecstasy at once. I think some R-type or Gradius elements would be nice, like an upgrade to your character's gun, maybe something else that fires behind you, etc.

Hell, even Mega Man 8 had Auto and the boys filling that kind of role.

Optic Sunflower's stage is the only time in which your ranking earns you something special. You have to clear 5 out of 8 stages in Optic Sunflower with an S-ranking to get a rare metal, and then you must clear all 8 stages with an S-ranking in order to get the second rare metal. I suck at time-crushers too. >< I hate 'em.

Personally, trying to get to X's armor piece in the fire stage is proving to be more annoying than the time trials.

How can you tell your rankings, anyway? The things in the back seem to indicate in a way... is it possible to go from bottom rank to S-rank in one test?

The ranking thing in Sunflower's stage is seperate from hunter rankings. They're more or less used track your progress. The name of the game is speed. Off the psuedo-servebots in under a couple of seconds, and you're assured a top ranking. Take your time and you'll get a low ranking. It is possible to go from bottom rank to top rank, provided you kill off the little buggers within the alotted time. Your prize of metals at the end is determined from how many top/mediocre/low ranks you got.

I was able to get all top-rankings only after I finished the game once and used Zero w/ the Sigma Blade and black armor. The thing that hangs me up the most, though, is that spikey chamber before that last test. If you die, your previous test ranking goes down. Frustrates the hell out of me.

I found the Icarus Armor to be a nice, cheesy way to do it...

Trust me, Zero/black armor/Sigma blade is the fastest and easiest way to clear it. Between one and four swipes takes down pretty much anything in the level.

Plus you don't need to wait for your giga crush to refill. :P

I'll believe that. Only thing with Icarus is you don't have to beat the game for it. Now that I've GOT the Sigma Blade, I'm using it for everything, so... now I just need to get the black armor.

...I really liked Sigma there...

...so did I. Still doesn't answer the question, though.

Almost makes it a shame if this really is his last appearance. Almost.

But what a last appearance. I figure he was going for the "Space Overlord" look, y'know?

That's one way of putting it.

I'm not saying much right now so as not to spoil people, incidently... nor provoke them myself.

1) It's a necessary evil, like save points in RPGs (is anyone supposed to really believe that touching a shiny object in the middle of nowhere has anything to do with the story?). I think Palette's A.D.D.-friendlyness has more to do with lazy programmers, though. They could have simply entered in some new text boxes to explain what exactly the metal(s) you found could make ("That Rare metal you found can be made into ____ !"), but instead they just let it go. "That one piece of text is fine." I imagine programmers quoting.

2) You talking about his form, or his ability to be trumped by another villain?

3) a)Laziness again, methinks. Not enough meticulous testing- they probably just didn't catch that command directions were off. It's unprofessional and stupid, but probably an honest mistake nonetheless.

b)I haven't noticed the weapon energy hit conversion, either. I'm baffled.

c)I think the life recharge for the second character is random, but it activates for your first character 100% percent of the time when you recieve a deathblow (when your second character is knocked out, of course). I haven't been able to prove or disprove this, but I think your second character will recharge more often when you're attacking; it would work the same way the dual attack gauge fills. But I'm not sure of this.

6) I think I remember Alia mentioning the bulbrites. Something about how they're supposed to be Mechaloid or Reploid support units (they can merge with mechaloids and increase their power and abilities).

10) I think Intermissions open up only after a certain overall percentage amount of the game is completed. Either that or number of game hours put in. Can't really tell either way. I do remember one popping up after coming back from revisiting a level with a new armor part for X. That could just be coincidence, though. My advice would be to tough it out and try to find as much of the hidden stuff as you can. Two of the rare metals in Pandamonium's level are brutal, though. Stupid necessary ride armor. >_

1) Storywise, I'm not bothered. But for God's sake, we get it the first time!

2) Form. I'm still finding the rest out, thanks. ;P

6) I remember her mentioning them(though I can't recall if it was by name). They seem to do a lot more than that, though, and I don't recall her saying much more than the fusion bit.

10) Thanks for the tip for finding that last metal...

not that I know anything about it, but I hear that you can't get the top ranking. XD You need to do some kinda 35-hit combo on all the end bosses (y'know, on the second-last stages of the game where you have to re-kill all the bosses from the teleport chamber), but at a certain point after 10 hits, the bosses assume a temporary immunity which makes it impossible to land in the 35 strikes consecutively. XD

Er, just a rumour I heard. ;)

Stage ranking?... Your top combo score has to be high, but with the chain combo part and a bunch of enemies on screen it's easy to get up to at least 40 hits (especially with Zero, who is flat out the best character for combos and metal collecting.)

You don't have to score a combo like that on a boss..
